RXP GTN750 kills custom sounds

Recommended Posts

P3D 4.3 Win 10...

I purchased and installed the RXP GTN750 the same day that Beta 3.4 came out, and it appears to be interfering with the custom sounds in the Falcon. When the GTN is installed in the aircraft I cannot hear the APU, switch clicks or trim clacker. When I remove the GTN, the custom sounds start working.

I did not have this problem with the previous F1 GTN, but I would much prefer to use the RXP unit.

The GTN’s own custom sounds do work when it is installed.

Curious if anyone else is having this issue? Engine sounds are fine with or without the GTN.

I verified that the required 64-bit sound DLL is present in the appropriate place - which it would have to be, since the custom sounds do work without the RXP GTN installed.

The only difference I noted using Microsoft Process Explorer, is that When I load the Falcon with the GTN750 enabled, that a new process: "GTN Simulator.exe" starts running, attached to the main P3D.exe process. I assume that .exe is an RXP program required to give the GTN its functionality.

Hi Jim,

'GTN Simulator.exe' is the Garmin trainer running in the background, this is normal.

As for the sounds, we're pretty standard in this department (think Direct Sound) and this shouldn't be interfering, as DS opens in 'cooperative' mode (also standard).

I'd suspect, provided there is no bug in our GTN (otherwise it would be recurring in our forums for ages I guess?), the Falcon sound processor is not designed to share with other programs using Direct Sound at the same time?!?

Thanks Jean-Luc. This will be a question for FSW.

No there is no bug and i am testing the same interior model with no issues. Also the DLL that uses the windows direct sound also has not conflicks. They can both share.

For Barrett's issue he will need to keep testing and try newer beta version as we release them to help figure the problem. Because nobody else is reporting issues. And if there was i would get a ton of messages on FB.

In my case, I’m running 64 bit Win 10 Pro with P3D 4.3, plus the newest version of the RXP GTN 750. The problem may be unique to that particular combination of Windows OS and flight sim version.

I still have the problem in Beta 3.5. I don’t know where to look further for any issues specific to my computer.

I can run the latest Direct X installer from Microsoft to insure all the files relating to Direct Sound are current.

All I know is that the Falcon custom sounds are silent when the RXP GTN is running in the panel, but work fine when the GTN is not installed.

I did have the F1 GTN previously, but completely uninstalled it before installing the RXP version yesterday. I saw a post in the RXP forum where a customer was having a different kind of problem that may have been caused by a leftover DLL from a previous F1 installation. Perhaps the F1 uninstaller does not remove everything it should.

Jim,

There is a free program called Revo Uninstaller that often finds things leftover from running an application's own uninstaller or uninstalling using Win10's Control Panel Programs and Features. Revo Uninstaller needs to be used with some care because it can dig deep into the Registry if you ask it for 'deep cleaning'.

Hi Folks,

Re: P3Dv4

Once again - I am having the exact same issues as Jim - select the RXP GTN 750 - I lose button clicks and APU sounds...

Switch to F1 GTN - the sounds return...

Regards,

Scott

Perhaps this issue only affects P3D version 4 installations that use the special 64-bit DLL?

Are those the only sound you are loosing, but all others are fine? If true, this may indicate either a code logic issue around playing these sounds in particular.

Or, it could just be these sounds WAV files in particular are using a certain combination of "bits per sample / bit rate / sound format" which is causing a conflict at the sound card level (for example, they are encoded with the GSM codec and the card can't play them in parallel with other sound playing at the same time)?

Hi Jean-Luc,

Yep - we're just losing the specific sounds on the aircraft - not all sounds - others work fine...

As for your other question - that's for Mark (Flysimware) to answer - as I don't know...

Thanks so much for your interest and all you do !

Regards,
Scott

Per FSW, the main engines play through the sim sound system, and other sounds play through the windows sound system. The custom sounds include pretty much everything not related to engines - switch clicks, APU sounds, the stab trim in motion sounder, etc.

On P3D Version 4 specifically, the custom sounds require a 64-bit sound DLL written by Flysimware that as far as I know, is not used by 32 bit sim platforms (FSX, and P3D 1 through 3)

The two of us having the problem so far are running P3D V4.3

There are no sound or DLL errors after installing the GTN-750 panel, but all the custom sounds go silent when the GTN-750 is present, and they return if the GTN is uninstalled using FSW’s own panel management program.

Perhaps some developer-to-developer back channel communication is required here, as I am just a customer, and don’t know anything about the internals of either product.

This is the kind of issue where virtual brainstorming can lead to good solutions and I think your feedback, and our questions, help further narrowing the scope of the issue prior digging into heavy code bases!

So I assume these are all custom sounds being shut off, or just some of the custom sounds (that is the sounds playing via the Falcon own sound engine)?

Have you tried to change the GTN volume though? The genuine Reality XP GTN 750/650 Touch can adjust the COM and NAV volumes too. Could this be related? Just select the COM window (default) and turn the Volume knob up, then select the NAV window and turn the Volume knob up. These affect the FltSim COM/NAV volumes only, but maybe this is related depending on how the Falcon sound engine is routing its sound to.

Hi Jean-Luc,

I’m not at my PC at the moment - I’ll certainly test later - when I get in...

Hah - the two companies with some of the best Customer Support in our community - posting in the same thread - we’ll get this sorted... It’s so nice having you here instead of your old forum - LOL - at least for your customers...

😉

I'm heading off to work in a few minutes, so won't have a chance to try this until late tonight or tomorrow, but I shall. As far as I know, the affected sounds are the ones which play via the Falcon's own sound engine.
