How to land the 787 correctly?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

flying the A320 lately I'm not 100% sure if I'm landing the 787 correctly. On the A320 I need to set back the thrust from climb detent to zero on flare.
Is it obligatory to push the autothrust disengage button before pulling the thrustlevers to zero during flare with the 787?

Thanks!

Best regards Andreas

I have read the full manual (381 pages). Unfortunately I could not find an FCOM.

A/P is off 1000feet above. A/T is still engaged.

The Boeing and Airbus systems are completely different!  You do need to manually disengage A/T on every Boeing.

Might want to check this link out for some specific differences in technique when coming from an A320:

On newer Boeings like the 777 and 787, the philosophy is different. That A/T is designed to be left on.

It goes into "Idle" mode automatically in the flare. Then you simply go into reverse thrust in the roll out and the A/T will automatically disconnect at that point and time.

Of course you can still disengage it as you would on the 737CL, 757/767 fleets on final approach as well. But it was designed to be left on in the new fleets.

EDIT :

This video here shows the behavior I am talking about if it helps you visualize it.

Note : IDLE indication on the FMA and the A/T autodisconnects silently with reverse deployed.
