In the interview, Adam Breed also mentioned that P3D v4 will be used for a while before version 5 will see a release.

That suggests to me that v5 is going to introduce more significant changes to the core product. Perhaps even more significant than the upgrade to 64bit.

I would think it would be new rendering engine /DX12 support.

I wouldn't mind waiting it out for another year.  Sounds like they've provided some good things to cover the gap for a while.

I think that v5 will not be released before mid-2020, and if you ask me, I actually prefer a 3-year release cycle over the previous 1.8 year, even though I still use v3. Imagine if LM released v5 in mid-2019 - most add-on developers have not yet fully gotten warm with version 4, and they would need to invest a disproportional amount of time to make their add-ons compatible with the new version if it were released so soon.

In my opnion we could easily get up to 4.6/7 before v4 has matured and LM are ready for v5.

A level of service that we couldn't even dream of during the MS era. I mean there were hints from some of the people in the community for a while now that at some point LM will start introducing significant changes to the platform and that the future was bright, all coming through so far. I love it.

In that case a 2020 release for V5 would make sense as that's Microsoft's cutoff for extended support on Windows 7 making LM require Win 10 for V5 more justifiable.

From past history, except for version 2.5 has LM gone past x.4 update or 2 year window before moving to the next version. 4.6/7 would add almost 2 more years on v4.

We could easily get to v4.6 though, because v4.5 is definitely planned.

"planned release for Prepar3D V4.4 " What does the word planned mean? All know about the term . The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry

A project managers nightmare.  You get a go from everyone then stick your neck out on the time of the release.  Your phone rings and you know the rest.  I was a project manager for 15 years and it's what grey hairs are made of....
