Yikes: hang glider video

Very frightening.  I have flown trikes, but trikes have seats even though there is nothing beneath your feet but air.  The pax on that hang glider had a strong survival instinct and saved himself, and walked away with minor injuries considering how fast they landed.  I have jumped off the stratosphere tower in Vegas but before I jumped I made darn sure I was harnessed in for the free fall.  It wasn't quite a full freefall, a second tether controlled the descent somewhat to keep me from reaching terminal velocity.

Anyone one wanna go tandem hang-gliding, parachuting, or bungee jumping?  I think I'll pass!😱

Hi Folks,

Well - at least they had all their Go Pro camera's attached properly - that would have been truly disastrous...

Did they have time for a good "selfie" on the way down ?

LOL - wow - seriously...

As a skydiver - I can't tell you how many times I check my equipment and straps before a jump - then you have someone else check them as well...

Someone should be seeking a new hobby...

Regards,
Scott

And who says checklists aren't needed for every aspect of flight.

Brief Hang Glider pre-departure checklist:

  1. Kite - no holes, all strings and wires attached.
  2. Pilot\Passenger - connected to harness
  3. Go-Pro on to capture epic flight.
  4. Go flying

I think they forgot step 2. :)

I just wonder how could they forget to check whether the pax was connected or not.  It makes no sense, not a good pilot at all, the first thing a pilot should check for is the welfare of their passenger(s).  "I forgot" is no excuse for that pilot or their organization.  They just wanted to rake in the dough, that's all.  When I took trike lessons my CFI's behind me would ask me "are you alright" after takeoff, since I was silent on the radio just enjoying the flight.  I would give them a simple thumbs up, I always felt safe in their hands and on a couple of occasions they felt safe when I helped them out of high winds with my strong but rock steady arms.  I had a great feel for the air on trikes, which Is why I love flying them so much.  They are just motorized hang gliders anyway, and with the motor near idle in flight I could catch the thermals and soar for a long time, I could feel them well and turn back into them gaining crazy altitude.  I learned how to use thermals as an RC pilot, you look for cumulus clouds or birds circling and just follow their lead.  Thermals can be a bit bumpy but trikes ride thru them very well.  It feels like the hand of God is lifting you up into the air, the greatest sensation of faith in the atmosphere.
