PTA v2.63 - Water surface tuning incompatibility

Recommended Posts

@Sunny Andonov If you want to have a tweaked water surface in P3D 4.4 you have to restore a backup of a 4.3 GPUTerrain shaderfile that has already been tweaked by PTA 2.62 to your liking.

If you apply a preset with PTA 2.63 (P3D 4.4) you have to restore the tweaked 4.3 GPUTerrain backup to get your tweaked water surface. Any changes you made in the new 2.63 preset you applied that wrote modifications into the GPUTerrain.fx shader file (which is of course not reduced to water surface tuning only) will then be reverted bakc to what you had in your P3D 4.3 preset as you restored the P3D 4.3 (PTA 2.62) GPUTerrain backup and replaced any changes you made with PTA 2.63.

You also have to be aware that you have to restore the P3D 4.3 (PTA 2.62) GPUTerrain shaderfile everytime after you applied a preset with PTA 2.63 (P3D 4.4).

The screenshot you provided just shows photoreal surrounding of some airport addon. Not the best of examples in terms of terrain shader tweaking.

Thanks for clarifying. I actually do not edit the preset in PTA 2.63, just load, un-tick the water tunning and apply. That's why I lost you first time but now it's clear. I think I am gonna wait till Matt fixes this water problem.

Regarding the screenshot. Yes, it is a from an add-on airport as my first screen shot was from. I was just trying to show that the green color looks much better after changing the preset and not over saturated.

Cheers

Look ate the top of this forum for a workaround so you can use Water Surface Tuning again.

If you want to apologize is up to you, of course. I clearly did not mean that.

I have found it's a lot easier and productive for everyone, both paying customers and developers, to do a search on the forums to see if the problem has already been addressed before. That would quickly tell you that you're not alone and what course of action is being followed to fix the issue.

It's just a matter of efficiency.

Why dont you just point us to the solution? you do know alot of research results come up when we search for the solution and we have to click on each one of them until we click the right one, if were lucky enough we'll click on the solution on the first try

I don´t know if this issue had ever a final solution. You could possibly try with PTA v2.64 or v2.65 in P3Dv4.4 to see if it did solve it. What I finally did is to uncheck the water suface tweak, and for me it was sufficient for now. I'm now waiting for the hotfix for P3Dv4.5 to be released before installing the new PTA version to see if the water tweak will work fine.

My point in the original post was a remark about the need to avoid wasting the developer´s time with the same questions again and again, that makes you think people are not reading the previous posts (in general, reading over all the previous posts allows me to learn a lot). In the case of PTA, Matt is the only one doing the support for all of us, so it was a matter of helping him to make his work more efficient.

Cheers, Ed
