Old tweak still to be used in P3Dv4.4 ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I flew out of EDDK yesterday in the PMDG747-8F towards Dubai and noticed that my system (I7-4770K@4,6 HT off, GTX1080TI) was struggling with FTX GES at low altitude (badly need FFTF to give me 0,40-0,50 above 5000feet , as i am running unlimited FPS) and came across the old value UseGlobalTerrainView=False in the P3D.CFG  which i remember had =on so every cameras did not need to reload textures . didnt see much differents but anyone using it still ?

As i climbed out i noticed textures was getting better , also in the distance as i have used Robs tweak for texture distance.

Thanks

Michael Moe

I still have it in my config in P3Dv4.4, but just because it was there in v4.3 (I added it). However, never observed a real difference, but also no disadvantage, ergo it is still in my config.

The original setting was 0.33 for FFTF, I experimented with 0.01 and the region purge setting from 16 to 1 and seen a good result in 4.4

And another one posting FFTF=0.01... When do the people finally get that the lowest setting accepted by P3D is 0.1? I fear that we never get this placebo setting out of the simmers minds...

One question I have about this limit, however, is whether FFTF Dynamic, by presumably altering the value directly in program memory, is bypassing the range checks that P3D normally does for a parameter set in the Prepar3D.cfg file.

It could well be that values below 0.1 are possible using the utility.  Notably, the default lower value in v1.3 of FFTF Dynamic is 0.01--whether that's placebo or not hasn't been clearly established.

The Fact when you change it makes a difference might suggest you are correct.

Another old tweak working very well on my low end PC (i7 3700K / GTX 1060)  is UsePools=0 in the [Bufferpools] section. I really get more FPS by setting that even on 4.4.

Concerning FFTF, my best value is 0.25.

No placebo at my end Chris. I agree, have tried a host of other tweaks, 99% of which have no effect, but FFTF=0.1 works flawlessly. However, while I see no effect whatsoever for blurries from 0.01 through to 0.50 (not been higher than this) there is a distinct improvement with FPS increase and smoothness. My sim is super smooth with FFTF=0.01 but I wouldn't even consider flying without it. I'm not saying it works for others, just my own experience. Certainly no placebo effect 😉

Do you have a source for that? In my experience, 0.01 makes a difference in FPS, which means it is accepted by the sim.

Careful guys. I am not saying that FFTF has no effect and that you do not get better FPS or the impression of a smoother sim with FFTF=0.01 compared to the default value. What I am saying is that this value is not accepted by P3D and most probably automatically corrected to the next acceptable level which is 0.1 (that is the big question).

Means: if you can show me a true difference between 0.1 and 0.01, I would be really surprised.

In the P3D tips and tricks forum.

.Showing that 0.01 = like running FPS unlimited. Unlimited is known to be 0.01

Following on from the FFTF setting at 0.01 not being recognized by P3D, I was looking at FFTF Dynamic, which has a good following on here and I noticed their setting starts at 0.01 up.

Might give that program ago, especially as 50% off at Simmarket, although 4.4 update has not been released yet.

I am not into arguing with you about this statement.

But anyone who is reading this statement should check out for himself on his system if there is a difference in FPS with FFTF=0.01 and FFTF=0.1. I certainly do see a significant difference on my system.
