I would love to have bought this excellent looking piece of software but ten days of trying to get the software to recognize my speech has been so frustrating that im giving up

You do not need to "talk" to the software if you don't want to. The software has a  "sayit" function which allows you to interact with the software using just the mouse/keyboard...

Did you go through the Microsoft speech recognition training first? It's the Microsoft software's job to recognise the speech, not Pilot2ATC's. It receives the results, not the raw analogue wave data.

Make sure you complete the sequence in the main Microsoft tool. It is worth the trouble, I assure you!

Most speech recognition problems (beyond the training that Pete mentioned) are directly related to microphone quality. Once you've gone through the full Windows speech recognition training exercise, turn on speech recognition in the Windows settings. This option is just for the OS itself and has nothing to do with P2ATC. Next, open Notepad and try dictating. See what mistakes the speech recognition is consistently making, such as not understanding certain words and phonemes (sounds). With my original microphone the SR had an awful time with Ds and Gs.With more training and adding specific words to the Windows SR lexicon, it improved. I eventually got a headset with a high quality microphone.

I bought a cheap Microphone 2 years ago for 5 euro. I only sometimes had a success with the speech recognition in P2A. 4 weeks ago I bought a good Microphone for 30 euro and now all works perfect.

Hyper X Cloud 2 Pro

Thanks for your help but speech recognition in windows 10 works fine for me .I use it all the time for work.just not in pilot2atc

If P2A is hearing you but not understanding you, there are several Voice Recognition Training modules in the Grammar Helper screen that you should use to train the program on your specific voice with the unique language of ATC.

It is also possible that Pilot2ATC is not hearing you clearly for any of a number of reasons, and that could be affecting its ability to understand what you are saying.  Quite a few new users have to make some adjustments to their settings to get voice recognition to work, but once set up, it works fine.

Here are some things to try:

1.    SWITCH SETTINGS: Check to be sure the Power indicator in the bottom left of the main P2A screen is  green.  If not, then you need to turn on the battery switch and avionics switch in the aircraft, or if that doesn’t turn it green, check the 2 options “Ignore Battery Switch” and “Ignore Avionics Switch” in the Config P2A Setup panel.
2.    VALID CALL SIGN: Make sure you are using a valid call sign by changing it to the default Mfg: Beech; Tail Number: N431VB and pressing the Save Button.  You can send me a screenshot of this page and I will let you know if there is a problem with the call sign.
3.    VALID FREQUENCY: Be sure you have a valid frequency showing in the Active frequency display.  Open the Radio Panel and check that the frequency selected has a valid controller assigned.  Try swapping the active and standby frequencies a couple of times.
4.    PTT BUTTON: Use the PTT button on the main screen to eliminate the possibility of it being the Joystick button setup as the issue
5.    VALID PHRASES: Make sure the phrase you are using is appropriate for the controller.  “Say Altimeter” should work with all controllers, so use it.
6.    VOLUME SETTINGS: Check the Windows Volume Mixer and be sure Pilot2ATC volume is turned up. (While P2A is running, rIght click on the speaker icon in the task bar and select Volume Mixer).  Also check the volume of the voices in P2A Config.  On the Communications tab of the Sound dialog, be sure "Do Nothing" is checked for when Windows detects Communications activity.
7.    HEADSET SOUND SETTINGS: If you are using a headset, Windows may recognize that and put a set of "level" settings on the Levels tab of the Headphone Properties.  To set these, select the Headset in the playback devices Windows Settings and press "Properties". Select the Levels tab.  Be sure all levels are turned up 
 
9.    GRAMMAR HELP SCREEN AND DIAGNOSTICS: Try using the Grammar Help screen.  
⦁    Press the Grmr Help button to the right of the Flight Plan
⦁    Pess the Practice button 
⦁    Take a screenshot of the resulting Message box with the connection information and email to me at admin@pilot2atc.com
⦁    Try saying "Say Altimeter" with no other words.  It should be recognized.  Let me know the result.
⦁    If not being recognized, press the "Replay" button and see what your voice sounds like.  If no sound, then your voice is not getting through to Pilot2ATC and we will need to work on microphone settings.
10.    SOUND DRIVERS AND ADD ON PROGRAMS - Many PCs come with Sound Add On programs from the manufacturer that are run at startup.  Some of these programs may "Capture" the microphone and prevent Pilot2ATC from hearing it.  Also, some addons may have such features.  Check to be sure there are not other sound programs running.  Also be sure that you have the latest Audio Drivers for your Microphone installed.

Great minds ... as they say. That's the replacement headset that I mentioned in my previous post. I don't think it's on sale now though.

ok I think ive found the problemI have a usb sound card and every tim I press the ptt button it lowers the record level to zero so the voice level goes away

Any suggestions?

Here are a couple of things to try:

⦁    In the Microphones Properties: 
⦁    1)Check the volume level of the Microphone
⦁    2) On the Advanced tab, be sure the Exclusive Mode option is unchecked 
⦁    In the Sounds Communications tab, check that the "Do Nothing" option is checked

Have you tried using the PTT button on screen instead of the joystick PTT to rule out the joystick button press as the issue?

yes that is the button that when pressed immediately turns my mic level down to zero.
