How to properly Revert Back to Prepar3D V4.3?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I found nothing on this at Prepar3D website.  I am having issues with V4.4.  I need to revert back to V4.3.  I did not save the installer (12Gigs) so I am at a loss.  Prepar3D told me to download the Legacy Client.  I did.  Uninstalled 4.4 Client, installed 4.3 Client.  Sim boots up, then blinks out to desktop.  No notices, nothing.  The Client file (MSI Installer) is 256 megs.  The full installer is 12 Gigs.  How can 256 megs bring all of 4.3 back?

If only we had the option to redownload the entire 4.3 installer...

Does anyone have any recommendations?  Any advice?  Can the 'Client' file download the legacy packages of the sim?  Do I uninstall everything and then install the 4.3 legacy Client and then that downloads the packages needed?

😞

I wonder, if I uninstalled the package yesterday, if its still on my hard drive somehow?  I am guessing its not in the recycle bin as it was uninstalled, not deleted.

Kind regards,

Bill

Don't you think it might be easier to try to resolve the "issues" you have? Otherwise it might be difficult without the full installer for 4.3, but this should be available on your LM account, no?

Not to be a buzz-kill, but Ii you have the full 4.4 installed, there's no way for you to revert, without the full 4.3 installer (all 12 GB).

I'm afraid, that's just the way it is... if you haven't backed up the full 4.3 installer, then there's not much you can do...

What exactly are the issues you're having with 4.4?

Are the legacy installers not available in your LM account?

Bert - only the latest "dot" release for the entire version is available for download from your Lockheed account, which is v4.4 at this time.  I believe only the Client is available in the earlier dot release versions.  The OP would have needed his own backup of all the original v4.3 files.

That's why I have 4.1/4.2/4.3/ and 4.4 backup on the local network.

Never needed one besides the client one time 🙂

I believe this only restores an earlier version of the registry.  If a file he'd erased during the uninstall was then overwritten on the disk by something else before he does the restore, I don't believe he'll get it back.  I don't believe restore is the same thing as going back to another image of your drive.  But, I could be wrong.  I suggest he check this first before doing the restore.

hat why I have 4.1/4.2/4.3/ and 4.4 backup

I still have the full installer backups of:
2.5.12946.0
3.4.22.19868
4.1.7.22841
4.2.21.24048
4.3.29.25520
4.4.16.27077
As big as drives are now, and fast connections I'm surprise more people don't make backups of the full installers. The full installer is not just one file but also contains in the folder the Client, Content, and Scenery.msi's.

I know this isn't going to help the OP, but it should serve as an object lesson for everyone:

Backup, backup, backup.  Very high capacity HDDs are cheap...in fact a lot of us have a few laying around after converting to SSDs, anyway.

Before I move to a new P3D version, I backup the entire current system so I can revert back wholesale if something turns out to be amiss, like I had to do to v4.1 after the P3D v4.2 menu/keystroke buffer bug reared its nasty little head.  And keep your old installers around.  It isn't often you'll need them, but when you do, you do.  A $40 external drive dock like the Thermaltake BlacX allows you to put those old HDDs to use...save the old installers on one, then stick it in the closet for safekeeping.

I will also recommend Veeam Backup Agent (Free) at this point too.

Btw. we will be giving away 500GB disks at work, just finished wiping them, might find something similar in your country.

I used the client only to upgrade to 4.4. Then, because the 750 GTN was not compatible I uninstalled the client 4.4 and reinstalled the client 4.3. Ran FTX Central and all was good. GTN was back to normal. When the compatibility of the GTN was fixed I then uninstalled the client again 4.3 and reinstalled 4.4. I then ran into an error. So I uninstalled all the 4,3 components and did a fresh install of 4.4. Then ran FTX Central  and all is good.

I'm going to lock this thread since I know this issues has been resolved elsewhere.

Cheers, Rob.
