GTN650 Black Screen (resolved)

Recommended Posts

Ok, The error you're reporting is most likely related to the trainer files.

Can you please open the RealityXP.GTN.ini in your aircraft folder with notepad, then, right below the [GTN_750_1] line add the following:

DebugValue = 1
LogTrainer = 1

These will make sure to add additional diagnostic information from the trainer into the rxpGtnSim.dll.log file, as well as to enable debugging mode for the graphics.

Then once loading up the aircraft with the GTN 750 #1 (otherwise put these entries in the corresponding ini file section matching name), can you please let me know the content of the rxpGtnSim.dll.log file?

I'm sorry you have to go through this painful process, but we'll most likely get to the bottom of it with your help, and find either what is wrong in our code or your system.

Hey,

I'm actually very glad to help if this figures out a bug and helps others! Here is the contents of the file:

Ok, this confirms what I've suspected.

Can you please cross check the following files:

C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\GTN\nonvol\sys_nand#

where # is a letter?

are there files named like this, and can you confirm wether your user account has read and write access rights on these files, and their parent folder (nonvol)?

My account (an admin account) has read-write rights on the folder "nonvol". And I also have read-write rights for "sys_nande", which is in that folder. That is the only file named like that in that folder.

It is then possible this file is corrupted. I'd suggest you make a backup copy (~sys_nande) and open the GTN again. It will create one anew. Do you confirm the file size is not 0?

It created a new file, same name, same exact size (270,337). The GPS didn't work. Here is the log file:

Do you have the GTN 650 only license, or both 650 and 750?

obviously, if the former, replace all my comments to '750' with '650', though the log file shows errors with the trainer when I've directed you to edit the GTN_750_1 section of the ini file ?!?

Changed it for 650 (that's the license I have), and now the error is:

We're getting closer. The trainer is failing on you because it can't find some of its files. These are supposed to be installed in a certain path on your drive and for whatever reason it can't access these. I suspect this is because of having installed the trainer as 'admin' once.

1) Can you tell me what files are found there:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\Packages\GTN\data\nonvol"

2) Also, can you please let me know what values do you have for these registry keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\Trainers]
"DataPath"
"BinPath"
"DBDataPath"

3) Can  you please also cross-check the access rights to these registry keys and to the 'nonvol' path shown above?

I very much appreciate your help here, Jean-Luc!

1.

CFG_EEPROM
DISP_EEPROM
IO_EEPROM
MEM_EEPROM
sys_nand0

2.

"DataPath" - REG_SZ - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\
"BinPath" - REG_SZ - C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers\
"DBDataPath" - REG_SZ - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Trainers\Databases\

I'm not sure what you mean by cross checking access rights to these registry keys, but with my account - an administrator account - I have read-write access to all of these three folders. Interestingly, though, for the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Trainers" folder, under Properties->Security, there are a couple of group or user names I have never seen before:

ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES - only has write access
ALL RESTRICTED APPLICATION PACKAGES - only has write access
CREATOR OWNER - no access
TrustedInstaller - has "List folder contents" and "Special permissions" access ONLY

I don't know if these 4 groups are of any interest or consequence, but I've never seen them anywhere else so I thought I'd mention them.

I was thinking that may be the case! I will do that and report back. Thanks again!

4. Reinstall the Garmin trainer normally.

Never mind, I found the right one.
