Carenado PC12 and RXP GTN 750 for FSX only?

Saw your second post with the new PC12 configuration. Will look at it this week and report back.. Looks a tad over my pay grade, but will work through it.

It looks overwhelming at first but once you've done it a few times and understand how it works it's pretty simple. I've been there before.

Bill, yes, I did the standard RXP GTN 750 install. It just looked a tad small to read, unless you used the popup.

Agree. It depends on the panel layout, and how far it is from the pilots view. Which is where the popup comes in. Most of the time I use the popup anyway.

I jumped in and selected the GTN 750 2 option. This gave me the bezel option again, selected it, and whulla....The GTN 750 is there, resized using the normal sized bezel....

Ummm, but, the popup is an independant GTN from the in dash version...So, maybe the GTN 750 1 is the correct item...

You'll want to have both the VC gauge and the popup to match. Both GTN 750 1 or both GTN 750 2. I always have the 750 as unit 1 in a multi gauge setup.

Why do we need both the GTN 750 and the GNS 530

Sometimes 2 units come in handy. Use the 750 for navigating and the second unit you can use for viewing certain pages like terrain, traffic, etc.

How do you revert the panel.cfg back from the F1GTN750PC12.exe action

Just run F1GTN750PC12.exe again if you want to start over adding the RXP 750.

If you want to return to original panel layout (2 Carenado GNS530's) run CAR530PC12.exe.

the F1GTN750PC12.exe can do,  It removes that little gauge at the bottom (what is that?)

Not sure what you mean here. When you run F1GTN750PC12.exe it removes the upper Carenado GNS530 and adds the bezel for the GTN750.
There's no way on the VC panel to resize the bezels or move them up or down.

Not sure, but do you have the RXP GNS530? If not I can provide a panel configuration for just the RXP GTN750 for you here:
Run F1GTN750PC12.exe. Then backup the panel.cfg file. Copy and paste (replace the contents) the following to your original panel.cfg.

Hi Bill, I ended up removing and reinstalling the PC12. Only took a few minutes, but I now have backed up aircraft and panel cfg files in my FS file vault...ok, lets start again.

ok, so close, your post pics and description helped greatly. I now have the resized RXP GTN 750 installed in the top position, with the existing Carendo GNS 530 underneath it.

I ran the add-ons RXP app, got the same pics as you displayed, and all seemed to go well...BUT, I notice the pop up RXP GTN 750 is the master GTN 750. By this I mean its knobs and home button control the in dash GTN 750. The in dash GTN 750 buttons do not work.  The touch screen works ok between them. Is the pop up GTN750 supposed to be the master ?

I do not have the RXP GNS 530, so skipped this part. Considering all the features of the GTN 750, do I need to use the PC12  GNS 530? are both the GTN 750 and the GNS 530 needed.

When I referred to,  It removes that little gauge at the bottom (what is that?) I was referring to the small gauge under the bottom GNS530 (it has 1200 on the screen).

Now I have a master backup of the panel.cfg, I can't get into too much trouble.

Hi Geoff,

The pop-up and in dash gauge are one and the same. They are also the master. It's not necessary to have the 530.

As for buttons and knobs in dash this is normal. There is a workaround. See this post. https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/521969-official-panel-configuration-mods/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-3939212

Hi Bill,

No worries. Just wanted to make sure I had not goofed. I am ok with it the way it is now. As you said earlier, most work maybe on the larger popup anyway....

Hi Geoff,

It seems overwhelming at first indeed, but once you start trying it only take a few hours to get the gist of it. You are progressing well!

NB: 'Master Device' is only related to the notion of which of 2 GPS has authority on any shared resource in the panel. There is only 1 autopilot, therefore, only the master device controls the autopilot in a dual GPS setup. The same applies for the HSI (only 1 in FltSim), but on X-Plane for example, there are 2 distinct HSIs (pilot and copilot).

The idea behind the 'Master Device' setting is flexibility in the simulation world. I'd assume in the real world and dual GPS setup, only 1 of the two, usually the top one (i.e. #1) would be for example connected to the autopilot and the pilot HSI, GPS #2 would just be connected to copilot HSI is any is present. This scheme is too restrictive in the simulation world where you can mix and match so many different items in so many unrestricted ways compared to the real world.

We're trying to improve our Settings Panel in the next update so that it is clearer with online-help, but we're yet to find the good balance between verbosity and understanding.

That is the transponder, and the GTN has its own integrated transponder..

Hi Bert,

Just curious for the newest FDE on the Carenado website - do we have to cut and paste the "aircraft.cfg" to make your fine mod work with it ?

Scott

Thanks Bert, I wondered what the little guy was. I have been so busy with the PC12 and Phenom waiting its turn in the hanger, I have not flown them at all to understand what does what.

Hi Jean-Luc, I am getting there and now have the Reality GTN 750 working in the PC12(for practise, also in the FSW Learjet and Cessna 441) The Carendo Phenom 300 next in the hanger.

And yes, important to understand the relationships between similar instruments and which is connected to what.

My first thought was why didn't Reality have their install app the same as F1, eg, run the app and all done...sort of no hands. But, maybe the F1 app is very specific what it is doing, while your app is more generic and with a bit?? of knowledge you can insert, add and remove gauges to several aircraft.

Is what made my task much easier to understand and follow, was the forum advice from Bill. see below. You know the old saying about a picture is worth a thousand words. In the early stages of ummm, should I back up some files, where do I start, what do I do and what is going to happen, then walk you through the beginning to end for a common aircraft configuration. I think at least, when the install of the Reality app is completed, it automatically offers to open the manual at the worked typical example like Bills topic. and maybe some topics from the forum on panel mods.

I am looking forward to my first use of the Reality GTN 750.

As a matter of fact in this case, I'd say copying is a form of flattery... You can find our older manuals on our website detailing our older config tools circa 2004 which others are just getting inspired with...

The GTN modern, live, in-sim, contextual Panel Assistant and the Settings Panel are not only offering the capability the older tool offers, that is adding a couple popup windows to the panel.cfg, but it also reaches beyond like you're starting to discover the more you use it!

The paradigm and mental shift is: stop thinking a config tool requires you to exit your aircraft or even exit the simulator to add a monolithic popup window there. Instead, think you are living in a fluid and dynamic world of options at your fingertip, all in the comfort of your cockpit, be it on the runway or even in the air!

Agree Jean-Luc. I was amazed to see your config tool carrying out the changes live and you can see the changes straight away, rather than shut down and open the flight sim. Fantastic effort on your part, as we can make changes on the fly so to speak, until we get them correct without the time consuming task of multiple shut downs.

I am sure some others on this forum who are masters of the gauge mods, really appreciate your config tool.

I thank you for your kind words! I can assure you I abuse the GUI Panel Assistant whenever there are many tests and comparison between the GTN and the GNS V2 during development. This is a time saver for us too!
