Orbx Global for XP announced

Recommended Posts

I'm not too impressed with those summer shots so far. Curious what the desert textures will look like.

The xEnviro snow accumulation looks great to me. Have seen a lot of snow being as I grew up in Minnesota and resided in Flagstaff.

But they aren’t as nice as XP default textures.

I think they are an improvement, but not a huge one. I don't think they should add roads to the farmland textures, because X-plane overlays all the roads onto the textures anyway, and they will mismatch the roads in the textures like they do in all non orthophoto scenery including FSX and Prepar3d. I  need to see a larger variety of landclass to really judge these. The default X-plane textures and landclass are actually surprisingly good where you see them transitioning into the ortho scenery, which I have a lot of, but I do think there is some potential for improvement, especially in farmland, desert and urban areas. Hopefully, Orbx can make enough of an improvement overall to make this a worthwhile purchase.

I agree  turnandbank: There is so much work that needs to be done. Quite a bit is missing such as, barns, silos, other fodder storage. Rural airports need work also.Runways are not always visible in the air. You land, and nothing is there. Very well said!!!

I think we should give them a chance to complete their product before being too negative, give them time, I think in the end ORBX will come up with something great. I have to admit I am more of a P3D user than XP, and for some reason I can't really explain, I am not a huge fan of XP default autogen (plausible word) so I am actually looking forward to see what the end product will look like. I have been enjoying True Earth GB tremendously however. The good news is that there is so much going on in both sims, 2019 is going to be a great year for us simmers!

Will be interested in the cost.

After all, if they are going to omit 3/4 of the textures, the price should be less than the FSX/P3D version and not by a few dollars.

Coming for XP, they just announced it in their live streaming.

It will replace default ground textures.

..sorry for the silly question, but do we really need ORBX if using Ortho4xp along with  HD Mesh Scenery v4 overlay ????

It's almost like there might be some people out there NOT using Orth4XP...

Considering not everyone might be willing to download tons of GB of data and like some others even buy new hard disks just for that, i think so.
