August 1, 200619 yr Hi,The voices the RC4 team took the time to record. Yes, some are even regionalized.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/
August 1, 200619 yr Again for the umpteenth time... I recognize that the third parties have a product to sell, but as a consumer, it would be nice if the base package was better, or at least more upgradable.
August 2, 200619 yr Hi,It can be upgraded with Radar Contact 4.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/
August 2, 200619 yr Below is a link to what I'm referring to. So it isn't a ban, but it is a little more complicated now than just making sure you meet the requirements of issuing a "position and hold" (being able to see the departure end of the runway, daytime, etc.)http://www.avweb.com/newspics/genottiph.pdfAlso see http://www.faa.gov/atpubs/atc/Chp3/atc0309.html#3-9-4 for bookworms.
August 2, 200619 yr >>I don't understand why so many obvious flaws that would>seem>>so simple to fix were overlooked for this release.>>If you truly believe that it "seem(s) so simple," then you>don't fully grasp the complexity that makes it not "so>simple..." ;)>>Oftentimes in programming, the "simplest looking things">become some of the most incredibly complex to implement.Or it's the programmer that hasn't enough capabilitiesOr as in real life (I know :-lol) you have average programmers or good ones so different levels... that's one of the reasons for debug hehehe.... and a program running worse or excellent or a bad GUI or a excellent one etc...Or the easy question is indeed difficult to implement ;-)Nothing is complex, thinking easy is complex (KIS ;-)) :-lolI will never say upfront that's easy or complex without all the facts :-rollHave fun :-) Andr André
August 2, 200619 yr The base ATC is useable but most likely not better, but as far as upgradability, I believe the SDK's for FSX are being released with the Deluxe version this time around not to mention some 3rd party vendors have been working with the development team over the past several months to ensure better compatibility. And I agree, RC4 is an upgrade. And here's hoping RC5 will be even better. Ian.
August 2, 200619 yr Well it is upgradeable. It's only intended to be a skeleton ATC.Software development choices always have to be made, and this was one of them.I see what you are saying, but if you had to make a choice between a stuttery sim with better ATC, or a smooth sim with the same ATC, which would you take?Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 2, 200619 yr I'm dissapointed that ATC didn't receive more attention for this release, but I understand the resoning. Now I'm just hoping there will be things in there that will allow us to do more tweaking. Since it was mentioned that ATC relies on triggers, perhaps the new mission builder will provide some triggers that we can link to ATC??
August 7, 200619 yr It was a design choice. And that's all there is to it.MS chose to spend development time on other areas of the sim, and the ATC was not one of those areas.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 8, 200619 yr "Taxi into position" and "Line up" instructions are widely used at all busy airports around the world despite recent concerns. I understand that this was a development choice but I am very disappointed at this decision. To choose elephants over more realistic ATC procedure is not understandable for me. It is supposed to be a Flight Sim not Zoo Sim.
August 8, 200619 yr To address this comment-"To choose elephants over more realistic ATC procedure is not understandable for me. It is supposed to be a Flight Sim not Zoo Sim."I have 17 years of real flying in my logbook and around 2000 flights. I have seen more groundhogs/deer on the runway, and bird flocks/birds to avoid in flight than I have gotten a taxi into position instruction (or a sid/star).I have had bird warnings in the atis about the same number of times I have had the hold clearance-as I have also had verbal warnings from the tower about birds near the runway. So perhaps in the scheme of real world flying-at least mine- animals are more likely. :-)I am glad MS has chosen to model what is more common-at least in my case.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

I learned to fly at a controller airport and I got "taxi into" instructions many times. No dears on runaway though ;)
August 8, 200619 yr No-I flew 14 years out of a class "c" and now fly out of a class "d" for the last 3.Yes I get the hold instruction-but not that often, and in terms of numbers I have seen more wildlife. Same with sids/stars (and I fly exclusively ifr).I really don't see making the world we fly over becoming more alive as a detriment and see it as something that increases reality. When pro pilot came out with real world mesh and 3d clouds in 1999 and the fs98's were flying polygons/lines and ice cube clouds-pro pilot was put down ("who needs a rock weather sim-not serious!"). Now those items are taken for granted in all sims. I think a dynamic alive world with moving cars/animals will be likewise the norm in the future. Not about a "zoo" sim but making a live dynamic world to fly with-just like in the real world. In any case-I always root for the highest occurences in my real world flying to be modelled 1st-and bird flocks/animals here and there will be a welcome addition-since I deal with these quite often where I fly. I would also like better atc-but I don't think the fact that some atc improvements have not been included in this version is at the expense of making fs into a zoo/gamelike simulator-in my case it is improving reality-perhaps more than a position and hold instruction.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
August 8, 200619 yr I'm with you here Geofa...It's all about the overall experience and to have the feeling of beeing there as in real life ;-)Andr André
