Hope someone can help.>ta ver much,>ChrisIt's not in the demo. They just added it to the codebase. I assume it was hardcoded into the engine before, and in their latest check-in, it's configurable.

I too don't like when people call it "just a game" instead of a simulator. In reality it is both.Regards, Carlos

I like AI boats as much as the next guy, but when the boats become the tail wagging the dog ...scott s..

Being a little bit of a devil's advocate...Blurries, at least for me, were much worse in the FSX demo than in FS9. They are fairly tolerable in FS9, though still irritating. It depends what I am flying, where I am flying, other graphic settings, etc. Sometimes I get 'em, sometimes not, but mostly I have things pretty well tuned to keep the scenery sharp. So, when they talk about improving the blurries in FSX, are they merely bringing it up to the standards of FS9? There is a lot of talk about AI boats and such that I don't think was an issue in FS9.And then we have this bit of disclaimer:"There is still one cause of the "blurries" that this checkin does not address. If we attempt to use more texture memory than the hardware supports, some textures may be forced to render with reduced resolution. This is unfortunately beyond the control of the terrain engine and it depends upon the other objects in the scene and the particulars of the user's hardware."So .. I'm just saying ... let's hold off on announcing that this is the end for blurries for all time. Especially with people running textures at 1m resolution, we're still going to be butting our heads up against the limits of memory pipes. All that said, I am hopeful. And it will be fun seeing everyone playing with that new config setting and announcing how they have found a miracle performance cure :)

It is another code optimization, not a cure-all...Did people REALLY think that the beta code in the demo represented "all we were going to get" re: the blurries? Let's not be that pessimistic.Rhett

>Did people REALLY think that the beta code in the demo>represented "all we were going to get" re: the blurries? I REALLY thought so. So late in the development, 2+ months before the release it is very difficult to expect they can perform some magic and turn things around. I thought the subject of the blurries must have been high on the agenda from the start of FSX effort - so when I saw the demo I was not very optimistic. I guess we are very lucky if they managed to solve it. Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/for...argo_hauler.gifhttp://sales.hifisim.com/pub-download/asv6-banner-beta.jpg

The rest of the time was feature development and content creation. You can't really address a lot of issues until you have everything in place to test against.

Exactly. ;)

FSX looks like it has been built to accomadate the future hardware advances well beyond my expiry date:) There has been a big change in the way the ground texture's update from fs2004, flying the demo with the fs2004 Realair C172 and capping the FPS to 15 changed the demo from a blurry mess to being blown away with what 1M textures offer. Can't wait to see (and hear) the finished resultJohn

I've read all the messages but nobody has recorded their experince with this new addition to the FXS.cfg file - has this improved their blurries?I have copied FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 into the [MAIN] section of my FSX.cfg file and I don't think there has been any change. I take-off from Quueen Julianna, get to about 3000 ft, pull up TCNM on the GPS, put on autopilot and toggle the NAV/GPS button and let the aircraft circle the area continuously. All the ground textures become fuzzy and the autogen buildings lose some of their crispness.NigelVancouver

This fix is not implemented in the demo. Thus, adding the line to the fsx.cfg will not do anything. It would be like adding FLIGHT_SIM_RUNS_PERFECTLY=1. It might be in the cfg, but it sure isn't gonna do anything. :-)
