Flightbeam KDEN versus KIAD

Lol... I just did my 1st outbound flight from KDEN yesterday. I started off at gate C46, and had to taxi to runway 26. About halfway to the runway I was beginning to wonder if ATC was giving me vectors to drive to Baltimore. It also made me wonder if I had put enough fuel on board.

Sounds like the problem is with ATC.  IRL, when winds favor takeoff and arrival to the west 26 would be the normal arrival runway and 25 would be used for departures.

KDEN is actually well designed to produce short taxi distances for both arrivals and departures under most wx conditions.  But if you're sent to what would normally be an arrival runway for the given conditions then yep, you're basically going to find yourself taxing the entire length of the runway plus some, and given the high elevation, all of KDEN's runways are lengthy.  But that's not how the airport is designed to work.

I have always wondered this as well. P3D ATC seems to always choose the runway that is most inconvenient, ATC at KDEN always chooses runway 26 which is like a 30 minute Taxi, SO annoying!!

IMO, KDEN is very well done, my only complaint is the grass looks like you are taxiing through the African Safari... in their more recent sceneries the grass is better

Depends on what type of flights you fly, I would say. Both airports are gorgeously designed.

KDEN is perfect for those short hops into the mountains and to the west coast with the Q400/NGX/A320.

KIAD is a perfect airport for long haul ops. You can fly one of many United routes or have your pick or international routes. If you’re buying the 747-8, FRA-IAD on LH seems appropriate.

Denver has the better performance, but that’s more a factor of the surrounding area being rather empty than the quality of the scenery.

Personally, I would go with KIAD, just because of how versatile it is with the number of flights you can fly out of there.

I really do like them both. I used GSX to replace the jetways at both airports with clear ones that have the airport logos on them.

I own KSFO, KPHX, KDEN, KIAD and KMSP and they are excellent.  After KSFO, my favorite is KMSP and well worth considering.

Agreed. All their stuff is excellent, but there’s just something about KMSP.  Superb workmanship and a joy to fly in to and out of.

KDEN is my home airport, and it's mostly well-done, but here we are years later and Mir STILL hasn't solved the problem of trees growing on some of the parking ramps.

Arrgh.

Ok sounds great! I am once again torn. KIAD is better for 747-8. While KDEN has a tricky approach which I love!  I will make up my mind and let you all know.

Also although it's normally op by a 77W the -8 can also do the icn-iad route, and it could happen IRL .(imagine the t7 breaks down, you need a plane to replace that)

Yes that is why i need the 748, I was debating between that, the maddog X, and the CS 757. But the 748 seems more prevailent

Well again that depends on what you plan doing. Within us, 757 is good for coast to coast, maddog for shorter hops within bigger hubs (88 particularly). 748 is good for thicc long haul transatlantics within major hubs

Yeah thanks! I think I’m going with the 748
