Carenado A36 and GTN 650 panel mod request

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm trying to set up the GTN 650 in the Carenado A36, but the problem is that the UI keeps showing parts of the GNS 430 in the VC.

I used the replace gauge option with same size.

Here's the config and screenshot, does someone have an idea of what I need to change?

Hi,

This panel original gauges were most likely designed to rendering under the 3D bezel so that the screen part would be visible right in the middle.

As you can see in the panel.cfg file, you've selected 'no bezel' option in the Panel Assistant for the GTN 650 #1. The screenshot shows the #1 displays larger than #2 indeed.

You might want to:

  • Remove the trailing text ",NO_BEZEL"
  • Adjust the width and height manually until it fits your liking
  • Review similar Carenado aircraft mods in our 'Official Panel Mods' discussion to find some example (there is a chance Carenado is using the same gauges and dimensions in all their aircraft, so one panel.cfg mod gauge dimensions would work on any aircraft)
  • Review the P3D panel.cfg SDK documentation to understand what this file is about here:

Yes I've experimented around with the Bezel/No bezel.

I've looked through the documentation for the panel.cfg, but it only has height, width and starting x/y. But basically what I'd need is a way to have it pop out beyond the 3D model of the 430.

I've also tried to replace the stock 430 with the RXP 430 for which Carenado provides an application and then use the replace panel option, but the problem is still the same that I only get the 650 display part in the inside and then the different RXP 3D parts of the 430.

So basically if I understand you correctly, what you are saying is that I can't replace the outside 3D parts of the 430, but would have to shrink down the entire screen of the 650 into the inner side of the display?

You cannot remove the GNS bezel, it is part of the model.

Sorry, but that is about it.. :blush:

Like Bert is saying:

The 3D model is hard-coded in the model and not as a separate entity which can be removed.

However there is a solution: lobby Carenado and your other favourite vendors so that they offer a RXP GTN and a RXP GNS V2 option for their aircraft!

Ok, thanks for clarifying that.

I'll ask Carenado if they may offer the GTN in the model in the future.

In the meantime I'll just keep using the popup for the navigator.

Ok, you might also consider adding a link to this discussion if needed:

Hi Germano,

I am trying to get the same layout as you (but with dual GNS indeed).

I'm almost there, after several attempts, but I cannot use the units by clicking directly on the touch screen in the Virtual Cockpit.

The workaround is using the 2D pop-up windows, but I would greatly prefer to work in the VC only - also because my desktop's monitor is actually a 23" touch screen, so it would be really amazing to interact with the GNS this way.

Do you have the same issue/limitation?

Try turning off "Instrument Reflections"

I just tried it and get a Popup Window when I click on the GTN in the panel.

That is probably hardcoded in the model..

Is that what you get?

So, if you have the following, you will get the correct window..

[Window01]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=500,500
window_size_ratio=1.000
position=8
visible=0
ident=794
window_size= 0.320, 0.500
zorder=0

gauge00=rxpGTN!GTN_650_1,  0,0,500,250
gauge01=rxpGTN!GTN_650_2,  0,251,500,250

If you look through the Interior Model file you will find:

 794   (>K:PANEL_ID_TOGGLE)

which is the click spot..

I know of no way to override that.. :unsure:
