GTN 750 Black Screen After Hard Drive Change (resolved)

Hello

I recently bought a new hard drive, during the process I changed the letter of the drive (X:) where X-Plane was installed in. I tried reinstalling my GTN but nothing worked

Hi,

please make sure to reinstall the GTN with the e-commerce installer and your key/password to re-authenticate the license.

Besides just to make sure: the log says '650', have you purchased the GTN 650 or just the GTN 750?

The log says you're trying to open a 650 #2 device but there is none available because you've purchased the 750, this is expected.

Hi,

Let's start over, especially since we've just released v2.5.11

  1. Download the newest version installer from our web site front page.
  2. Review: How do I reinstall my software?
    http://reality-xp.com/store/faq.html
  3. Since you've changed the drive letter, did you also install the Garmin trainer in this drive before?
    if so, please uninstall the Garmin trainer and reinstall it so that it's registry/paths are updated to "X:" accordingly.

You might want to just uninstall then reinstall the trainer if this applies, otherwise, if you feel confortable, here are the Garmin trainer regsitry keys:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\Trainers]
"DataPath"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Trainers\\"
"BinPath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Garmin\\Trainers\\"
"DBDataPath"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Trainers\\Databases\\"

What do I do with these registry keys?

You tell me!

If this is something you're not familiar with, then why not just doing what I've told you: uninstall the Garmin trainer then reinstall it.

Mind you, this would be necessary ONLY IF you've installed the Garmin trainer to the drive prior you've assigned a new drive letter to it, otherwise, you might consider doing this anyhow just so that you can make sure you've eliminated one potential source of errors.

Sorry, I forgot to tell you,

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled both the Garmin trainers and the GTN, I have no clue what's going on. I can't even click on the screens for a pop-up window

Did you reinstall v2.5.10 or the latest v2.5.11 as recommended?

Can you please detail more? What 'screens' are you referring to?

I have tried updating, still no luck, I get the same issue. The screens I am referring to is the GTN 750 screens, in both the 3D model and the 2D popup. It acts as if it weren't even installed.

Any ideas, let me know when more information you need from me.

Ok, I just uninstalled a couple of things, now I receive this message:

Here is my rxpGtnSim.dll.log:

19/01/14 06:18:52.407 13528 -    ] # rxpGtnSim64.dll version 2.5.11.0

I still have the trainer installed

Ok let's recap, most likely the issue you are experiencing is because of this: Don't ever install nor run anything as admin.

Don't install Garmin trainer as admin, don't install RXP software as admin, don't install XPlane as admin and don't run any of this as admin. When you do, you tell windows to use a different set of path/registry for these programs. Furthermore, in case of bug, you risk erasing the whole hard drive.

Now, you'd have to make sure to reinstall the trainer normally. The bootstrap installer is saved to:
C:/ProgramData/Reality XP/Common/GtnTrainer/GarminTrainerSetup_2300.exe

If the installer claims it is already installed, then uninstall it then reinstall it.

Hello,

A few things, I never recall installing the program as an administrator, but I will still follow along.

There is no .exe file located at ProgramData/Reality XP/Common/GtnTrainer/, just checklist.zip and flightplan.zip

I am running the trainer version of 2310, not 2300, is this ok?
