Help finding/picking the right weather engine

Recommended Posts

I currently own REX texture direct and soft clouds, and I am looking for recommendations to replace the default weather generation engine in P3D. Additionally, compatibility with FSX without having to buy separate software would be great, but is not required. Additionally, since I already own REX texture direct, I have no use for any software's texture addons and would prefer a product that doesn't have them so I am not paying for something I already have.

What recommendations do you all have?

Sound like you just want the weather engine, I use FS Global Real Weather with REX textures and have been really happy with it. It works for all versions of P3D, FSX and X-Plane. Great weather engine and does a really good job depicting current weather conditions.

FSXWX is free and there isn't a myriad of settings to go through, works very well for me and seems accurate. I'm sure some of the paid engines have additional features (like the radar in ASP4) and wake turbulence simulation, but I don't really need those.

There is only one WX engine (tried them all) that works local fine for more than a decade...

I agree with Andre, I have tried at least three others and AS is by far the finest. A truly superb weather engine that is also supported with great ongoing support. Nice guys too!

In addition to the great weather accuracy in AS, this feature was a big selling point for me:

I'm very happy with ActiveSky P3D4. In networked Config. Worth every cents.

I own both FSGRW and ASP4, but I stopped using FSGRW in favor of ActiveSky. My main argument was:

If I need to pause my simulation in mid flight then simulator time pauses too, of course. ActiveSky respects this and does not continue to inject weather. FSGRW, however continues to download and inject weather while the sim is paused. For example, when you left your simulator pausing let's say at 1800Z and you returned 2 hours later to resume the simulator the sim time would still be at 1800Z but your weather would be from 2000Z!  - At least this was the state of the software when I switched to ActiveSky in mid 2017. While I found in general that FSGRW was not a bad program, this trait was too annoying for me to keep using it at the end.

Best Regards
Frank

Thank you all for your responses! Active Sky seems to have won by a land slide.
