No one wants to hear it.>Thank you for your reply. It proves exactly the point I was trying to make that as MSFS is a well-known and esatablished brand, majority of us will buy new version anyway ('coincidently' we will also have to buy new OS). And, oh boy, I bet ACES/MS are more than happy to use this fact. When I provided Crysis as an example I had in mind the difference between FarCry and Crysis which is absolutely astonishing, not the FPS genre itself. And I have no emotional distress whatsoever, thank you for your concern, but your post in return is packed with it.

If you want to compare FS9 and FSX, both right out of the box (yeah, I know, FSX is a shortened beta demo), then it is FSX hands down! The coastlines and elevations look much more natural. It's amazing to see cars actually going along the roads. I have trouble deciding whether the water textures are eye-catching because they are truer, or simply different. The jury is still out on that score. HOWEVER (you knew there was going to be a "but", didn't you?) after having added Ultimate Terrain, Justin's 38m mesh, and BEV to FS9, the stock FSX does not come close, imho. Rather, FSX looks like a cartoon in comparison to an embellished FS9. I'm sure the addons will come, and in time FSX will eclipse FS9 as I presently have it, but this will take a while. I will not likely be one of those waiting for the stores to open on the FSX release date.

A lot more than FSX alone! And it took me almost three years to spend that money, along with a lot more for payware planes, EZ-VFR, FSUIPC, Active Camera, etc. My point is, if the criterion is "as real as it gets" then FSX is going to take a while to catch up to where my installation of FS9 is right now, and FSX is going to cost some more for other addons to meet that goal.

My first impressions are positive. Indeed there are some issues with performance but let us not forget that it is a non-optimized prerelease demo version. With some tweakening tips found in the forums, I have managed already to get better performance. I think the final version will be an ultimate success and I will certainly buy it!;-)

How about FSX with Ultimate Terrain, GEPro, FE, and Active Sky? It never fails to amaze me how people convince themselves that the new version of FS will always be better than the previous version AFTER said previous version is loaded with every addon available. If you're happy (and I use "you" in a generic sense here; not to anyone specific) with FS9 loaded with addons, then with all due respect, keep it. Keep it and fly it and enjoy it to your heart's content. Just try to show the same respect to those of us who look forward to the full release. As for my impressions, I liked the demo. Sure it has bugs, but no one said it would be release candidate code, so I'm not worried. The water effects are fantastic. The aircraft modelling and detail is potentially payware quality. I say "potentially" because of limitations in functionality in the demo. My understanding is that these limitations were on purpose for the demo only and that the final product will not be that way. I do have a slight problem with the scale of autogen buildings and trees, but I have a feeling there's a setting in a configuration file that can solve that. I'm not even going to address the road traffic issues, as they aren't even "issues" worth complaining about. All in all, I think the next couple of years of flight simming are going to be a golden age for the hobby.
