Your First Impressions of FSX DEMO POST HERE!

Featured Replies

Seems to me that the most high end systems cannot get more than midway on the sliders before frames tank. And this is with only an island showing and water. Wait till people try flying around New York or any big city... And this is with default stuff. Imagine trying to fly the PMDG 744 in this sim....ya right! Makes my decision to wait for the hardware to catch up with FSX until mid next year a smarter move with each post I read.

Initial impressions of the demo:-More bugs than you can shake a stick at. I could spend all day just cataloging the bugs I found in the demo so far.-Incomplete models (to be expected, but non flight simmers will shy away from the game because of this I fear.)-Performace issues (again, to be expected). Turning up the scenery (namely buildings) is especially bad.-Weird AI issues: When I was doing the CRJ mission an AI 747 was just sitting there with it's tail right out over the threshold of the runway.-Does a CRJ really have spoilerons? Now that I think about it I can't remember it from any flights I've been on in the CRJ.That's all I can think of at the moment.

Did you read Tdragger's blog? :-) I think it's very promising and some of the bugs are pretty amusing. I.e. the 'naked' cars Mike mentioned. Or one way traffic only in St Maarten. And boy are those roads crowded! :-) Thanks and keep up the good work, ACES. Kind regards Jaap

Yup I read his blog. Those "naked" cars are everywhere. I wanted to add one more thing. My favorite feature by far so far is the new head motion feature in the VC. Man that is the coolest thing. Although I think it needs to be toned down a little. It feels a little exaggerated.

>1. My CH-Pro Pedals are constantly issuing a 'Break' command.>I had to disable the imput or use the good ol' parking break>toggle.I had the same exact problem. I played around with it and the only solution I could find was same as yours, to disable the toe brakes and use the parking brake for stopping. I hope ACES is reading this.

I find the new ATC window slightly annoying, it blocks your view since it is bigger and less transparent than the old one, hope it's customizable. The new window does log past transmissions and you can scroll down to see any messages you might have missed, I like that. Also, the pink progessive taxi line is gone, replaced by yellow arrows. Not sure if I like the arrows much, but it's a nice change.

The first thing I did was take the ultralight up and go sight seeing. There are birds near the lighthouse. The trees look great. I had greatfun following the cars along the roadway thru the trees.I noticed the headbob thing - thats definitely good.I've noticed a number of bugs - most noteably was a morning flight toa nearby island (TNCM to TNCE). The sun was on my left and there waswhat appeared to be a moon off to the right but the reflections on thewater looked like the sun was on the right. Also, there were some textureproblems and this weird thing when I ran a replay of my landing andwatched from the spot plane.I think the improved mesh and textures and the trees all look really good.I love that wind sound in the ultralight.I get decent performance too. I've only turned up settings to a mid levelsetting but it still stays locked on 20FPS (even though it actually lookslike its running rough at times)It seems to me that the airplanes are more responsive. I like that.

|   Dave   |    I've been around for most of my life.

There's always a sunset happening somewhere in the world that somebody is enjoying.

Cloud shadows has been removed from the graphics settings screen. I would surmise that it has been removed for this version. I recall Jason W. mentioning that they THOUGHT they had found a way of getting cloud shadows working. Maybe it didn't in the end. :-hmmm

Whoa I just discovered something rather interesting I think. I was flying around in the beaver and I was just looking around. Then I started looking at the guy in the cockpit, and I thought I saw him blink. So I kept looking and he blinked again! Then I moved the throttle and he moved the throttle with his hand. Same thing with the stick. Even though it's just a little thing I'm very happy to see it.

Yes. Some of them blink. The others? Too much coffee...

I'll be honest with you guys, when I first loaded up the demo I was not impressed actually I was really disappointed. The textures looked awful, fps sucked big time and a number of other issues. But after tweaking the settings all I can see is bring on FSX in October! My rig is pretty mid range so I know I should be pulling decent fps with ultra high settings. The problem for me with FS2004 has always been the high detailed water setting and I
