I find the scenery (buildings) options REALLY hurt performance. Maybe that's causing your fps drop? Other than that I pretty much agree with you.Another thing I've found with the beaver. Take a look at the screenshot here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/alp...23-36-27-95.jpgI have full flaps selected in the picture. But the selection thingy doesn't match up for the flaps. It seems backwards. Also there's your example of the odd looking water when you're sitting right on it. Same thing happens in battlefield 2.

>Giant FPS hit from lumeblooms (even without AA)The readme.rtf file offers some insight into this "problem""Bloom effects are not functioning."If the bloom effects are not finalized, I wouldn't expect them to A) work at all or to :( work efficiently :) The readme has some other stuff in it too that probably won't make the demo any better but will certainly help lessen end-user stress levels. But like the EULA, the readme probably gets bypassed by many. For example, did you know that the EULA (which might or might not be worth anything in your country) prohibits you from installing and running the demo on your ordinary home computer? That's right."You may not use the software in a live operating environment unless Microsoft permits you to do so under another agreement."Hence you're only allowed to use it on systems specifically designed for testing products; not on systems that contain your personal e-mail or work-related files. You're also not allowed to tell others what kind of performance you're getting out of the demo:"You may not disclose the results of any benchmark tests of the software to any third party without Microsofts prior written approval"Best of all, you are absolutely, positively NOT allowed to use the demo to provide commercial software hosting services. No, I'm not kidding."You may not use the software for commercial software hosting services."So all you guys who were about to install the demo on your Windows server as a software hosting platform better think again! :D And to think some people still wonder why EULAs shouldn't (and luckily can't in some countries) be enforceable as binding contracts..

I didn't even know there was a readme. Thanks :)

You're welcome!I'm just shooting breeze here because I'm at work and can't yet try the demo out myself. I've downloaded and installed it, but flying through a VNC connection without a yoke is frustrating to say the least :DYes, I've tried it.

Wow I wouldn't even think that to be possible.

First of all: a big THANK YOU to the guys at ACES. I had only like 2 hours of sleep last night, but it's well worth it!Second: I'm really amazed by all the criticism that's been posted in this thread. A lot off people seem to forget that this demo is based on a beta build and the FSX-team at ACES still have about 2 months time to improve the sim.My first impressions were just GREAT! I LOVE the new water effect and the overall scenery looks very good, especialy compared to the standard FS9 installation.Performance wise, I was not too dissapointed. With all sliders to the right, I got 17fps, which I find still to be acceptable.I agree that this won't give us enough reserve for all addon's we have now with FS9, but what did you expect? I just had about 20min time to look around, but so far, I'm happy!Regards,Frank

Few words for the ACES TEAM, tdragger ect:THANK YOU!!

My first impression? A CTD!! But I took it in stride. As I tinkered away, I found that turning down AI traffic smooth things out a bunch. Things that stood out for me?-When using replay, no microstutter on touchdown (anyone else notice?)-water landings feel more realistic-the views are really cool to play around with, no more dragging the tower on the map to your destination, as you fly along, FSX will change to different tower cams!!-the cars on the road are really cool (even though their just the chasis' for now)-the crj audio in the mission took my breath away and the fact that you have a co-pilot is awesome-when you switch views, no blocky texture redraws!!!! Hopefully this isn't just a fluke, but i think i'm correct here-smoothness even in the clouds-the ai sounds really great, like when the 747 passes you after landing in the crj mission, just awesome!-oh yeah, i didn't notice any blurries, so that's a good thing, or maybe i was fixated on other things too muchJust a few things that caught my attention. Hopefully I'll get picked for the Fileplanet beta, but I'm not getting my hopes up, this was enough of an early Xmas present if I don't.

I like it and it ran remarkably well on my computer...P4 3.0 ATI X1600 256 2 gb of ram.

Keeping in mind this is only a demo, I dont think it is too bad however a few issues:PLEASE lose the horrible music when the game loads.I thought there were supposed to be more AI optionsPoor frames on high settings..I still noticed blurrys on the ground.Apart from that, not too bad microsoft :D

I have a Matrox Parhelia card and the graphics are not rendering correctly at all. Nothing but garbage! It may be time for new graphic hardware. Unless Matrox is working on driver updates. This is far away from primetime in my opinion. Lets hope that this demo was based on about 10 versions back. Again, it could be my hardware being non-standard NVIDIA like a good portion of the world.I wonder how ATI is working??Barry

Hi Excellent. Seems stable on my lowish spec pc(athlon 64 3400, 1gig ram, 128 Meg 9600xt card). With a bit of tweaking I am getting satisfying rates and significantly improved gfx over fs04. Given that I was planning the next round of hardware upgrades specifically for fsx I think this baby will rip along with some new SLI cards and a top spec amd chip. The wet runway look is pretty good, although I stood on the brakes in heavy rain and the Baron had no trouble stopping. I also set moderate icing and flew around in some TS`s and got no ill effects. Also, the weather seems to give much less of a performance hit when set to quite high levels. Its pretty nice now and the rain is way better - no doubt once the AS / GE guys get their hands on it we will see beauty. It might be me but I cannot get the view controls that I like. I assign two buttons on my yoke`s left hand side to forward/left(snap) and left(snap) and the reverse on the right. However, it seems to give me pan left/down and pan left instead. Anyone else having hassles with control assignments? Also, I also get the vc textures black after coming back from the menus - changing view and back consistently clears it - maybe its an ATI omega drivers thing. On ya MS!! Its great to see a demo version and I cannot wait to get my hands on the full beast when it comes out. Look out credit card, here comes FSX!CheersJamesPS from 500 - 1500 feet with the water detail maxxed out it looks truly superb - finally water that looks like water!!

Well should we say: not good!I am using an older laptop - about 1 year old with ATi mobility radeon x700 128mb - omega drivers. Pentium M 2.0 Ghz,533Mhz FSB1GB DDR2 533But I am not gonna use this computer for FSX, but buy one in feburary 2007 with vista and Intels Quadcore Kentsfield. Also a DX10 graphics card when it comes.
