Intermittent Sound Clicks with USB Soundbar

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just bought a new soundbar and got it connected to my flight sim PC via USB connection. Unfortunately I noticed annoying intermittent “click” sound glitches in-flight no matter where I loaded the scenarios in P3D into:

* https://soundcloud.com/user-691081649/demo-of-sound-crackling/s-StcCt (~0:02)

* https://soundcloud.com/user-691081649/demo-of-sound-crackling-2/s-lgPg9 (~0:02)

* https://soundcloud.com/user-691081649/demo-of-sound-crackling-3/s-d0aGI (~0:02)

I have tried everything I could, including re-installing audio+GPU drivers and P3D clients, resetting CPU default clock from overclocking, configuring Windows audio settings, monitoring audio latency (with no abnormalities detected) etc. However none of them did the trick. I just want to know if anyone of you using external sound card or USB soundbar has this kind of sound glitch issue with P3D v4?

I am currently running P3D v4.3 but the issue was there with 4.2 as well. My sampling size and rate were set to 24bit, 96000Hz.  I think an i7-6700k with 16GB 3000MHz RAM should be sufficient for USB audio. That’s why I am suspecting whether there is an incompatibility between P3D and USB audio.

I would appreciate it if anyone of you could provide me with clues or idea. Thanks very much.

Anson

Thanks Wise87.

I am using Creative Sound BlasterX Katana with built-in sound card and driver.

I’m using the same soundbar and don’t experance what your hearing. I know of two other who also use the same soundbar with no problems. Is it just in P3D or other games?

Try reducing the sampling rate to 20 kHz.  96000 is beyond overkill.

change the method you're connecting the bar to the PC. I hear clicking when a bluetooth speaker being charged by a USB connector is connected to my PC; clean sound when it's not connected.

Nice to know that somebody is using the same soundbar as I do, without issue.

May I know your computer rig and windows version as well? What sample size and rate you have chosen in Windows audio setting for the audio?

So far I can hear the sound glitches in P3D mainly because 99% of the time I use the PC solely for flight sim 🙂

Thanks for your reply.

I tried to use USB noise filter but it still didn’t do the trick. The reason I would like the sound bar connected via USB is that, the vendor provides a software that allows me to fine-tune audio.

Thanks 🙂

Even though I set the sampling size and rate to the lowest, the problem still persisted.

I use a Asus Maximus Code IX, 7700K@5.1 Ghz. Windows 10 Pro, version 1809, sound settings default when I loaded the drivers and Creative Utility. I would have to be at home to provide more detailed information.

I noticed that you overclocked the CPU as well. Did you tweak any voltages that may be related to USB ports? I am now suspecting whether or not the possible spikes of certain voltage(s) is the culprit of the sound glitches. I have fixed the Vcore to 1.375v in manual mode.

Also in the Sound Blaster Connect software, did you enable Dolby function(s)? And confirm you have a USB connection instead of AUX in?

No to any USB voltage adjustments. I did turn off USB sleep mode so my devices don’t go into standby. My  Vcore is 1.35 for my OC. I am using USB connection only. My onboard audio is disable in bios and I disable my Nvidia HD audio seeing I don’t need it since I’m using a USB soundbar. Maybe you have a bad cable or sound bar. I use the default gaming profile in the software.

I also got the on-board audio abd USB sleep mode disabled. And I didn't install NVIDIA/Realtek audio drivers. I have already contacted the technical support of Creative but it seems that they don't have idea why the issue occurred as well. I also use gaming profile like what you did.

I will switch to another cable for testing.

Just switched to another cable. The issue still persisted unfortunately...

I think I should make a RMA request to Creative...

Does it only do it P3D or with other programs? You said it made that click sound in both P3D 4.3 and 4.4? By chance did you try adding the following to your [Sound] in your P3D.cfg to see if that helped. If all else fails than RMA the sound bar.

[sound]
time_constant=0;
