Lights (Runways / Taxiways / Cities) in P3D v4.x

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I really dislike the lights in P3D. Back in my FSX-days, you could change the lights (i.e. "halo") via freee replacement textures or REX etc.

This doesn't seem to be possible in P3D. But for me, the lights (especially RWY lights) are way to white / "whiteish". I would prefere a more amber or yellowish look, since that looks more realistic for me.
Is there a way to change the lights / color in P3D (free- or payware, PTA etc.) to look more like this (real image)?

A couple REX products have alternative airport lighting.  REX TD has it but it is also in their newer Worldwide Airports product that updates default airport textures.  I also scale my lights down in size in the P3D .cfg.  You may not get that nice X-plane lighting in your pic but you can get close.  I have bigger issues with airport lighting in many addon airports.  They always seem way too big and white as they do have more of that amber color in the real world.  I don't think the lighting at addon airports can be modified.

I use REX Texture Direct for runway light changes and like you, I prefer amber to white.

Thanks,

The runway lights in the Professional version of Aerosoft's Heathrow product disappoint me. They look very "cartoonish", and not particularly realistic. They could have been rendered a lot better.

Does REX Texture Direct change all the (Runway)lights?

Yes: the wording in the program is "All Airport Lighting'' is affected when you make a selection.

Another suggestion: As FLIC1 stated, you might want to look into REX Worldwide Airports which also has airport lighting enhancements...and IIRC has a lower purchase price.

Okay, but that‘s just for the deafailt airports, right? Are 3rd party airports affected too? (ie Aerosoft / Justsim / FlyTampa / SimWings etc....)

I can only guess that any addon payware airports will use their own lights, but I don't have any so cannot confirm.
