Help lots of time put in

So i have a new pc set up,, i installed P3d and all the orbex and other addons in a separate Drive from windows..  during overclock windows got corrupted and i had to reinstall.  all the p3d stuff is still in the other drive  along with addons  do i need to do a full reinstall ?

If you had to reinstall windows, you trashed all the registry entries. The easiest way would be to reinstall everything that uses the registry to store install data. P3D for sure. Then try the other addons and see what works but you'd still be better off just biting the bullet and doing a reinstall of everything.

May I suggest getting your overclock COMPLETELY stable first - once that's done you can start the reinstalls.

Well, the unhappy news here is that P3D (and potentially other add-ons) use keys stored in the Windows registry, so you're going to need to reinstall them.  P3D, in particular, is going to need a reset from Lockheed Martin since it was not uninstalled before you reinstalled Windows and overwrote the key (the uninstaller goes to their server and releases your registration as part of the uninstall).  I'd get that request out to them tonight in the hopes they get back to you tomorrow, otherwise you may have to wait until Tuesday for reactivation (they advertise a 2-working-day turnaround, and Monday, 21 Jan 2019, is a US national holiday).

For future reference, what I do to avoid this when messing with overclock settings is to take an image of the Windows drive before I do any overclocking or change of the o/c settings, so that way if something gets hosed, I can restore the boot drive with all of the registry data intact and avoid dancing the re-registration Tango.

Yes i sent the entire day getting the Overclock stable today 8 hours on Prime 95. with no issues, I am no expert so live and learn.. Thanks for the help.

Bob yes i just figured that out,  Jeese what a pain in the word not allowed i am impatient so i spent the 10 a month to get the pro version  I dont know how to take an image i will do some digging  on how this is done. back to square one. i might have the same issue with PMDG with activation as i got a new CPU (dropped the last one and it cracked)

He might get away with it if he re-installs p3d to the same directory it was in before (since it's not on the Windows drive). My Windows borked itself a week ago, and reinstalling to the same directory was treated as a repair rather than a fresh install. Never asked me for authentication.

i was thinking the same thing and even tried just installing the client but it did not work for some reason. so i did a full reinstall to the same folder and no good. installing Pro as i type this.

I think you mean the P3D Developer's edition ($10/month for two copies).  If you do a search of the LM forums, I asked them there quite a while back on how to swap the registration of an existing installation with another registration key--there is a way of doing that so you can swap in your regular registration and stop paying the dev edition monthly fee.

Saving and recovering from backup images is really an essential skill for simming.  Recovering from a borked system by restoring from a backup image is far and away simpler and faster than reinstalling Windows, reconfiguring it, then reinstalling/configuring potentially tens or hundreds of add-ons.  I use O&O DiskImage, others use Macrium Reflect, Acronis, or something else.  I highly recommend that you learn this skill up-front...install Windows, then make a backup, and then restore that backup (keeping copious notes on the process) so that if you ever need to, you'll be confident and competent on how to do the restore.  There's not much worse than discovering that you can't recover an image when you need it because you never really understood what you were/are doing with the backup software.

I've restored from system image a couple times after P3D, or my system became unstable (for whatever reasons I was never able to understand). I'm simply using the old Win 7 backup and restore function in Win 10, and it works a charm!

Realizing your best laid plans and backups are useless, requiring a complete reinstall is a stomach churning revelation!

One thing to remember when you try to restore...make sure you boot your recovery disk using the same bios type (bios or UEFI) as used on the system you are recovering, otherwise you'll get errors telling you you system disk is formatted differently than the image you are restoring (MBR or GPT). I had this happen once and realized I had selected the wrong DVD drive listing in BIOS.

Thanks guys,,,  I am now up and running again. I will work on the backup and restore function tomorrow.  I am amazed that i am not getting high frame rates, I am running a stable 5.1 Mhz i7 8700k and a 1080 TI oc to 1987Mhz  sim is running great and mostly very smooth. i did go from 1080p to 4K so i guess that is the hit. One thing i wanted to mention at 1130 pm the same night i got an email from LM telling me my licence was reset. great customer service..   I will be happy with the 30FPS in NYC.
