very low frame rate ???

Recommended Posts

SO i just got this new rig up and running after close to 3 years no sim,, new set up I7 8700 @5.1 and a 1080 ti 4k 55" TV and two 17" screens for other programs. i just took a flight from KSFO to KSAN in the 777 and was getting around 35 frames at altitude but landing i dropped down to 14FPS  i have no airports installed for SO cal but i do have orbex SO Cal installed.  I did not tweek anything and i am not running full sliders as a matter of fact i was getting better frames on my old system.  Any ideas ?  this should be able to give me 30 FPS steady no?

Many people here have complained about the Orbx CaL sceneries being absolute FPS hogs and have subsequently disabled them.  IMHO, Orbx Vector + LC does a more than acceptable job rendering the scenery accurately without the need for the Cal package.  That being said, did you have SO CAL installed on your old rig, i.e. are you comparing apples to apples?   When you say "I was getting better frames.." the details are important.

I would expect with your system that you would do better than 14 FPS. As was mentioned above SoCal is quite demanding but I am also wondering about driving a 4K, 55 inch screen and two other screens from a single 1080ti. Others here may have more experience with this but I noticed the drop is FPS on my system going from 1080 to a 4K with a 32 inch -- it is a lot more pixels.

The first thing I would try is single monitor on just the 4k display...multiple monitors have always hammered my frame rates when I tried it.

A 4k display is a pretty heavy load on the GPU all by itself...aggressive AA with lots of clouds and/or dynamic lighting etc can bring frame rates down.  And ORBX SoCal is a known performance challenge, especially with lots of traffic and/or add-on airports.

Sounds to me like you're trying to throw the whole kitchen sink in...try backing off and building up gradually to see how different options hit your system.

I was using So Cal as an example but the same in NYC  yes all hte software is exactly the same as before the only change is V4 and new hardware.
