Replacing FSX obsolete approach procedures

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace outdated Instrument Approach Procedures at specific airports within FSX?

Yes...although not sure if it's possible to just replace individual airport data.

It's also possible to update individual airports with the freeware Airport Design Editor (ADE). But that takes time  and there is is a learning curve. fsaerodata updates the entire sim database.

Does this fsaerodata application have any known adverse effects on other installed scenery applications like ORBX scenery?  Have you used this before with acceptable results?

There is also another freeware group that is updating individual airports:

http://freenavdbgroup.com/

I'll add a disclaimer here. It is not possible to obtain an electronic complete copy of the latest AIRAC without purchasing it, so I have no idea how these freeware developers secure the original information. Many online sites provide navdata for specific airports for free (for example AOPA, Flightaware and Airnav) so there must be a mechanism for free distribution of AIRAC data.

The user group members have updated the airports listed in the PDF file. You download each airport and add its files to your scenery library.. That airport will replace the stock airport and will be updated to the latest AIRAC. They also provide tools and guidance for anyone else who wants to update an airport.
