Am I Suffering In Silence? Or is it me....

@Litmoose, can you list your hardware and software? If these crashes are frequent try a simple VFR flight with no plan, default aircraft, no weather and fly in an area where you have no 3rd party addons.

If you can fly around without any crashes that’s a start. I appreciate it’s not very exciting but when you’re trying to find and fix problems reverting to as simple a setup as possible is needed.

Are you sure there isn’t an entry in Event Manager? That would be odd.

Hi Ray

8700k @ 5Ghz, 16Gb RAM, 1080ti and P3D runs off a M.2 drive. With regards to the addons its just the usual, Orbx/GSX/FSUIPC/TomShade/countless airports/FSLabs/PMDG etc, and ActiveSky, Rex SF running on 2nd pc. In this case I think it was just one of those things as luckily FSUIPC auto saved the flight and I was able to complete it next day.

Okay, so that's sounding like a one-off problem that we can all get from time to time.

Just one point. Running weather programs from another PC isn't very efficient. They only update the weather every 15 mins or so so have a very small effect on the system. Consider running it on your primary system.

I run a second PC but use it for moving map software like EFB and LittleNavmap and Radar Contact.

Yea, I run afew other things like WIDEFS, Projectfly and EFB too on 2nd pc, Cant say I've noticed any issue with the weather though, I'll look more closely at it

Good advice, Ray, as software like EFB, LittleMap,and Radar Contact as low resource items as opposed to real-time injected Weather Emgines, like REX,ActiveSky, etc, etc.

Most X-Plane issues are from plugins, rather than the core program itself. I generally find P3D unstable and unpredictable more so.

In my experience X-Plane is more stable and requires less fiddling to get things working.

Everyone is going to experience different reliability. To diffidently say this is and that is subjective opinion imo..In regards to CP11, I see just as many CTD's, poor performance incompatibility etc at the Org. Specially and mainly due to the constant flux XP is in. I personally don't have any issues with either type of sim. No fanbouy of either also. Get a trial of each and try it.

I have been running Active Sky whatever and REX whatever from a networked machine forever (at present using the Active Sky weather engine, if any, and the SkyForce engine off). If I understand you, weather would be updated more often and/or better if I would install the combo on the main machine, right?

Kind regards, Michael

The update period remains the same whatever the route. Updating cloud textures across a network may take a bit longer but not appreciably so. It's personal taste really. Unless you're short of space on the primary PC I would always install weather programs to it. The shortest route is always the quickest.

No, not really.  But I run ASP4 from a networked PC because it's a lot easier to access the AS GUI on a remote PC without need to disrupt P3D, and I also approach performance on the sim machine from the perspective that every little bit helps.

I have had every version of Flight Simulator that ever came out. I moved over to P3D. Again, every version that has been developed. In EVERY one of these programs  I have spent far more time either tweaking, re-installing or cursing than I have flying. I truly believe it is better to limit your expectations and addons. It gets to be a fools game with no permanent or reliable solution. I will say that I have learned quite a bit about personal computers. Far more than I ever really wanted to know. My 2 cents.

My P3Dv4 has been running fine, nice and stable, so glad I sacked of the minefield that was FSX. I think quite a few reported problems are self-inflicted by too many tweaks, messing around and questionable addons - although that's not to say sometimes you can just be plain unlucky. Only issue I've had is autogen not loading properly which was caused by outdated orbx libs.

Thanks. Space isn't an issue. I try to install as much as possible to the networked machine for performance on the main computer, having in mind that the network traffic takes a toll, in fact, too. Anyway, I see your argument about cloud updates.

Kind regards, Michael

Well, once set up properly it works...Here and there some hick ups. But, once I start adding some "tools" (with suspicious compatibility) than I had to re-do whole sim and all add-ons. If one expect 100% to be perfect and no issues, ain't gonna happen. Besides, what else we have to do? Can't even imagine that I don't have to fix anything time to time. LOL.

Ever since I switched to P3D, I didn't had one single CTD.... and that's good enough for me....some issue I can handle, for now....😊
