Repetitive Acceleration 'Activation' Screen

Recommended Posts

Greetings!  It seems I'm 'bound' to come here again.
I'm constantly getting presented wth t he FSX Acceleration 'Activation' Screen AFTER  flying for 30min.  Looking for ANY help that would exclude   off/unloading all my 7TB of aircraft and sceneries... I've attempted several times to 'Re-Activate' to no avail...
I'm not sure that using the CTD publication will offer any solutions to this 'Activation' issue; as their really is no 'CTD'.. Where Unmounting and remounting 'Acceleration' is mentioned in the CTD pdf, I'm hopeful that somebody has contacted you previously and addressed this peculiar repetitive  'Activation' issue as a matter that might 'underly' or 'presage' an upcoming 'CTD'.  Consequently, rather than go through another 4 months to acquire a solution, I'm hopeful  I might come here and go straight to the point.  Thank you for your understanding and any assistance relevant to this issue.
Environment:
As I typicall do at least once if not twice a month:
February 1st, I updated my WIN7 OS.  No issues in that process.
Updated Java, Adobe Acrobat & Flash Player: They are 'current'

Conduct Defrag of C:\ then the same for my 2TB Seagate Slim USB; After which I then conduct a 'Norton BackUp' and ensure a 'Restore Point' is made on to one of my two External HD; usually my Seagate 5TB 'Expansion'.
As my PC is primarily used for FSX, through 'MSCONFIG', I typically turn off any uneeded programs listed in the 'Services' and 'Start up' tabs; continuing to do the same to uneeded services through 'Compmngmt'.  This is to salvage as much Virtual Addressing Space (VAS) as I may acquire.  This process to 'turn off' takes approximately 1hr and an additional 1hr to 'turn on' should I want to check for updates 2X per month. At least two days are lost each month to conduct this rather tedious, and lengthy process.  It would seem that WIN7 Home (64bit) OS doesn't let one save the changes as an optional separate 'User Profile'...  It has proven to be 'worhtwhile' in that it has made a lot of 'operational difference' while conducting sim flights.

While I'm on that thought of salvaging VAS, I wonder if anybody has ever submitted a 'list' of services to turn off while using WIN 7 Home Edition to accomodate this VAS goal?  I bet there would be a demand for such as there is only 1yr left on Microsoft Support for this OS.

Please find my current FSX and FSX Senery Config. shown below. I'm hopeful these will provide some 'insight'

Hi Sean,

Take a peek at the following references. I suspect that they will help in resolving your Activation Scree issue; they sure did, mine. Keep in mind, thought, that this requires a correction to the Registry:

Are you saying you deactivate windows services to try and save VAS in FSX? Did you know that windows reserves kernel space and user space separately so even though you may be saving kernel space available by shutting down processes while you are in the sim only user space is being used and filling up? So as long as FSX boots up and you start flying even if  you alt tab out and start other processes your VAS is still the same as the user space is dedicated to FSX only.

That's a basic explanation sorry... It's a complicated subject. Plus I recommend FSX steam. I had the CD packages for years but would never go back now is use the Steam edition. Much less tweaking if any required.

This may sound silly but your not trying to fly into a de-activated area when this happens as I noticed you have a lot of scenery de-activated.

You’re making simming way, way more difficult and time consuming that it has to be with todays hardware.

These days when running a 64bit OS FSX will get it’s own address space as sloppymusic explained, it pretty much unnecessary to spend all that time shutting down background services.

It’s also not necessary to be running a defrag every month, especially if your not adding much in the way of new scenery or airplanes. I still have mechanical drives and only run a defrag like once a year to year and a half.

Lastly, you should never be turning off any of the default scenery areas in an attempt to save VAS. Not sure if that what’s causing your issue but anything under the last line in the default scenery.cfg should always be left active.

Your biggest VAS savings will come from not using scenery or addons with “HD” textures over 1024x1024 like some airports, clouds replacement textures, etc sometime use. As well as scenery settings (autogen), draw distances for clouds.

A lot of the stuff you mentioned doing reminded my of back in the mid to early 2000’s when we were searching for anything to turn off and optimize to gain FPS and VAS prior to 64bit operating systems becoming the norm.

RustyFlyer;  Thank you sir for your time to help me address my 'Repetitive' Acceleration 'issue'... I in fact had searched for a solution and did in fact see both of these you've mentioned in your response.  I previously 'discounted' them as 'useful / helpfull' as I'm not getting an 'error message' with the 'code' as stated.  Unfortunately I do not store anything in a 'cloud' as I tend not to trust what others might hack... Thus, I wasn't able to include the jpegs I've managed to 'collect' through the 'repetitive' episodes.  I am none the less grateful that you did take your time to address my problem.  I thank you for this!

Sloppymusic; Thank you for your 'ample explanation' in regards to the my attempt to salvage VAS. I suppose my MCSE training and cert go back to the days of Win2000 and I might be 'presuming' something that is nolonger 'valid'... At 65, I'm not chasing the IT world much anymore.. ;)

So..Am I to understand that my 64bit OS, when in the compatibility mode still uses VAS, separate from that needed for FSX?  Is this separate VAS coming from the same 4GB of RAM seen by a 32bit software?... Or is it coming from the other 12GB of RAM on my 'board'?   If this is so, then 'User Space' (VAS) is not necessarily relevant to the amount of RAM in the 'execution' of FSX eh?  A yes or no is sufficient...

Thank you for your patience and courteous explanations!  I might 'catch on' yet... ;) Truthfully, I'm 'over invested' and am leery about switching 'up' to another platform... I'm thinking, if I do, I'd like my previous $5K to be useful...

rjfry; Thank you for your response sir.  I'm overwhelmed by so many in such a short time, and yours deserves as much attention as do the others.

I'd turned off scenery that which I had concluded to be 'auto-generated' scenery in an attempt to 'see' only the basic scenery necessary to conduct and 'FS Record' my flights.  Having other memory related issues previous to this current 'post', I'd essentially had to go very basic scenery then replay the *.frc file from (FS Recorder 2.17a) through my FSX with added photo sceneries (Mega Scenery Earth) along my flight path.  Truthfully, it has been 'bothersome' since this past May (2018) and consumes more of my time and wears on my patience.  I am concluding that I must move to another less bothersome simming platform....

Thank you again for your kind response!

cmpbellsjc;  Thank you sir for your most comprehensive review and response.  I'm afraid between you and the other respondents, I've been 'found out'... Your remarks are very much in line with the others and perhaps I need to leave well enough alone... I appear to create my own frustrations it seems... I will accept and follow your advise! I am grateful for so much information in so little time.

Only one who actually addressed the 'repetitive' Acceleration activation, and as I do not experience the 'coded error message', I'm still at a loss as to get beyond the 30min trial period..

I have since turned on ALL my 'services' through MSCONFIG, Start Programs, and COMPMNGMT 'Services'... I'm still experiencing a 30min flight!...

I'm quickly concluding that I will have to 'UNINSTALL' my Acceleration, reboot, then run FSX with out it, reboot and reinstall it, reboot and run FSX.. Does this 'sequence' of actions point me in the right direction?

Waiting on your generous response..

I feel ancient now..my MCSE training was in NT4!

Ahhhh can't do that and be 100% correct! On the internet defining anything without referring to an actual manual will be misquoted and criticized. Simply..there's user space and kernel space available for each app but the kernel space is shared. I'm fairly confident that OS processes dont inhabit much if any of the kernel space, unless you are running a database server (!) when that is 'probably' an app. So windows takes what ends up as approx 3.5GB split into KERNEL/USER. The kernel only taking say 2GB of your physical ram but EVERY app will get another 2GB of your ram. So FSX and say WORD running at same time will be KERNEL 2GB plus FSX 2GB plus Word 2GB= 6GB of your ram. So if you have 12GB and open 5 apps 2K + 5U =12 then you will start using VIRTUAL memory (ie hard disk space).

Gonna stop here before I get called an word not allowed by someone as I'm 20 years out the IT game now!!

FSX -SE is more a sideways hop than switching up. That 5k of goodies should mostly have no problem installing and running as long as you run the sim connect routines from the older versions (another thread will describe this) and download the latest install files for your product. I'm an oldie completely satisfied with the new platform and everything works smooth and without crashes. I use SCE Scenery Config Manager to manage my massive addon library and I have VAS and OOMs well under control and easily (the important part for a retiree like me!)

Here are some screens from my SCE set up:

I would seriously recommend the steam version (FSX:SE) to resolve a great many issues that the original CD version has. It is relatively cheap, and you can use all your addons with it.

Another, slightly more expensive option is to use P3D. Almost all scenery packages will work with it, and aircraft that use XML gauges should work. I would recommend the Academic version... you are a student of flight, correct? 🙂

You sir, are most 'KIND'!... I have to laugh at myself from time to time just to keep myself 'sane'... Glad to know somebody else who has 'delved' into the ever evolving world of "IT"..

I will look at and see what happens.. with that you've said.. I do appreciate your comprehensive explanation... ya.. somethings can be misquoted and misunderstood.. 😉

Rhumbaflappy; Thank you for response as well!... I didn't expect so much, but am grateful for those in this community who will share their wisdoms....

No.. I'm not a 'student of flight'..  I missed that opportunity and chose to chase young women too many years ago..  This is the only 'escape' for a retired army surveyor at 65yoa!..;)

Are we not all 'students' of flight. Lockheed-Martin does not patrol or verify student status. And a little soul searching might enlighten you that by participating in flight simming, you are in fact a student or 'learner' of flight.

If that is an uncomfortable option, FSX:SE really will solve some basic problems with FSX. It is equivalent to Acceleration, I believe.

As you now know, chasing older women is easier as they don't run as fast.

Sloppymusic; I just checked your 'SCE' settings...  Wow!  I use the same software, though I am only 'familiar' with how to 'delete areas'... I was made to understand that having so much 'listed' or 'checked' as you do, that it would slow down the FSX boot time...not so?... Of course based on my earlier statements about salvaging VAS, I delete those I won't expect to use; adding them on later flights from their storage on my external USB drives (2TB Seagate Slim & 5TB Seagate Expansion)

I see you are 'invested' into 'Orbx'... I bought  my very first 'payware' software through ORBX  (NW PACIFIC) some years ago, and simply said, I was not satisfied when it decided my FSX would operate inside it's 'shell'... There was no delete file, and zero support from ORBX and it caused me all kinds of headaches... I've sworn against it for all aggravation it caused me:  deleted all my payware, reinstalling.. etc...
