Orbx TrueEarth Great Britain South Released for Prepar3D v4

Recommended Posts

Here a vid I made a while ago with the old UK VFR scenery + custom AG + RWS London + AS Heathrow.

With not to high AG settings it was good flyable.. And back then I used 3 views, while nowadays I use 2 views ( much better fps and smoother )

See the airplane trying to take off before me 😂

I have a high end system and I struggle to get reliable framerates. I've tried to reduce settings 1 by 1 (most sliders were previously maxed) down to remove stutters.

The problem isn't framerate, I can lock at 30FPS but every 10s (or rotate camera) it drops to 10-15fps, I guess its the engine texture/autogen loading. Fly over London even in GA and into a complex airport like EGLL/C and its unplayable at almost any slider settings.

Shadows also need to be disabled but this means dusk/dawn or cloudy conditions everything looks wrong and overly lit. Stick to daytime/outside London VFR away from airports and things are ok if you really drop texture/autogen sliders and dont mind the occasional stutter.

Night lighting looks fairly poor to me especially over London, too dark and not many house point lights.

I can deal with the 6% bug but the stuttering makes this only suitable for coastal/country sight seeing as others have stated here.

Its definitely the way forward though and hopefully LM will address the awful autogen loading logic/popping and poor texture management in P3D4.5. The P3D engine is currently not ready for TE.

So your pc cannot handle the load and the framerate drops. Try with locked 20. It will give your system some breathing space.

And, if you haven’t done it already, Uncheck High Res Textures....

Regarding performance : I can fly TE NL without those framerate dips on my system...

Thanks for the test F737NG as I thought I waste of time unless your a GA flyer. Thanks for the post.

that was also my fear with it. unless you fly out of Cardiff or exeter

shame because i have all three in xp11 and its smooth as hell no stutters bad frames or anything.  But of course with p3d its my pc...

Well aware of locking framerates, vsync, fastsync, gsync lower to remove stutters and yes I have tried all combinations of textures settings, high res textures makes very little difference to the stuttering. Headroom is not the problem, once the autogen batch is loaded in, if I unlock frames its hitting 60fps. The problem is the loading of the next batch. Watching the 16CPU cores they will be all 1-5% apart from 1 at 100% when its 50fps, GPU load is 20%, then suddenly a new area loads and they all go to 100% and it stutters for 1-2seconds every 10seconds. Once that 'cell' is loaded I can fly around in cirlcles at 50fps again barely stressing the CPU 5-10% load.

This is how the engine works (badly) I get it and its a balancing act anyone who is serious about this hobby is well aware of. The hours wasted! But this is different, what ever changes to settings that are made I get stutters.

If I reduce everything right down. Autogen Sparse, normal distance I can get 100fps stuttering down to 20fps.. If I have it on higher settings 30FPS down to 11fps.

It makes no difference, flying properly around London (not screenshotting) I see stutters, period. As my machine is probably quite a bit faster than yours I think it is unlikely you wont see the same. Try slewing at 160kts from EGLL East, or North from EGKK.

If you genuinely don't see them I am impressed, please share your prepare3d.cfg and I will test it here. It is possible I have an issue but then again without TE I get perfect stutter free experience at 4k with most sliders maxed and dynamic lighting, shadows etc.

TE GB South has a lot more autogen buildings than TE NL, I don't think the two can be easily compared on performance. My PC runs TE NL over Amsterdam really well, TE GB over any city not so much.

That is not correct.

In total perhaps as the region is larger. But a large city like Amsterdam has about the same amount of trees/buildings per km2 as London. Your Sim does not load all objects from London at once . It will load them in patches.

If you have seen the vid I have placed in this thread you can see all AG and custom objects from London ( RWS ) showing lots of scenery and it is very good flyable. And I guess better than TE GB South.

orbx regions, true earth etc is made for GA aircraft period, disable it in your scenery library when flying complex aircraft PERIOD

My thoughts exactly. Fly with Orbx England LC product with NGX etc and for GA fly with True Earth. Problem will be helped enormously 😄

All I'll say is TE NL is easier on my PC than TE GB.

It all depends on your settings.

Here I have a batchfile that loads easier AG in place of the TE NL AG ( replaces the innercities from Amsterdam and The Hague ) ..

With lots of rain, OC and multiple cloud layers + high settings I use it..

I also suggested to Orbx to make 2 AG variations for large cities : normal and light. They have choosen not to go that way so I made it myself..

With UK2000 EGLL and QW787 I'm getting around 8 FPS at the airport with max FPS around 12.

On departure towards the east, I got 6 FPS over London at about 12000 feet.

YIKES!!!!

Compared to True Earth NL and Fly Tampa EHAM where I see 15 - 18 FPS.
