Course Guidance only works in VLOC with AirFoilLabs 172

Recommended Posts

I can probably guess at the answer to this problem, but I figure I'd throw it out there on the outside chance that someone has solved this.

Running AFL 172 with GNS530 v2.4.6.  If I go into VLOC and manually switch VOR1 head to NAV (it won't switch on its own when switching between VLOC and GPS), I can track a VOR perfectly and the needle is spot on.

However, if I pick a waypoint and go direct (or via a leg) in GPS mode, the needle stays dead centered and never moves.

Most likely, AFL are using custom datarefs which walk all over the standard ones.  And, as everyone pretty much knows, AFL have zero customer service so the chance of solving this via them is, well, zero.

Others experiencing this with the AFL 172?

Hi,

You might want to give the latest v2.4.9 update a try then.

Hey Jean-Luc,

I updated to the latest (2.4.10) and the problem is the same.

Are there options I should be selecting in the settings menu to get the GPS to work?

Thanks!

Paul

Not sure about your settings, but I have had the same trouble for a long time using the RXP GNS's. One update fixes another breaks. I suspect it's probably an X-Plane issue. I just setup two GNS 430's (newest versions) in my new Carenado B58 XP11 version, all was fine ONCE. Next flight, wouldn't track CDI for any reason, red flag also showed the whole flight, unless I used a NAV localizer. Wound up using the HDG & NAV bugs to do that flight. Was going nuts trying to sort it out, which i have done on numerous occasions. What wound up working, DON'T KNOW WHY, but loaded aircraft (B58) went through the flight plan setup, and the darn HSI red flag was there again, S.O.B. Said what the heck, went into plugin, disabled GNS1, bam there went the flag, for the heck of it, did same for GNS2. Then I thought, let me turn them back on and see what happens, enabled GNS1, bingo, flag still off and associated flight plan was showing proper course for CDI. Turned #2 back on and poof, tracking re-established. A royal PIA for every flight but it does get you back to a working GPS, at least for me anyway. Good luck guy, sorry don't use the RXP's in the AFL 172.

Hi,

We've been conducting a number of additional flight tests with some of the forum members over the last 10 days and we've further corrected this issue (awaiting final test flight reports). There is an issue when loading XP11 (and most likely XP10/9) with a cold and dark aircraft: XP11 resets our workarounds as soon as power is on. We have a fix for this and as soon as we get the latest reports we'll publish it!

Excellent news RXP, until then, i'll just continue a GNS reboot.. 😉

Have you had any success with this problem? I'm having very similar problems with the XP11 Carenado T210M with RXP G530/G430 and the Carenado B58 XP10 & XP11 versions with twin RXP G430. Version 2.4.10 has not been successful. I guess the only alternative is to use stock GPS or HDG mode.

Hi,

we've just released v2.4.11 update which might be better at solving this.

@Pivot thank you for your feedback!

Please note there is a last 'edge case' we've lately identified with the Just Flight Arrow III starting C&D. We didn't catch this one for the v2.4.11 release because we were using the Arrow III v1.3. With the latest Arrow III v1.6 it breaks the autopilot and I've been exchanging information with their developers to better track down what did they change in their code and how this could affect the GTN/GNS V2. Without much details this is rooted in X-Plane and the plugins interactions with it, and we've already have a working fix in our labs which is under test.

No worries here RXP, my Baron is smiling ear to ear. You all keep up the good work your equipment is as close to reality as it gets.

@RXP

Hey Jean-Luc,

I got a little confused from the thread replies whether the update was meant to try to fix the issue in the AirFoilLabs 172.

I tried the new version and unfortunately, the problem still persists.

Just an FYI.
