Okay,

I give up

Why? Thanks to all the advice I've been given on here, I'VE DONE THE Update and it generally worked, I had to run one updates as I was told, and I have a little more testing to do, but it's looking good.

Thanks, Gaz

How does Moses make his coffee? Hebrews it.

I took the shell off my racing snail, thinking it would make him run faster. If anything, that made him more sluggish.

Thanks for posting this thread. I will hope my hands up and state that the whole upgrading P3D has had me confused and pushed me away from using P3D for a good while. Hell think I still have P3D v4 only installed, as I really really didn’t want to have to reinstall everything again. It seems such a massive job.

However reading this, it looks like I’ve completly and utterly got the wrong end of the stick, so will get the darn thing upgraded first thing tomorrow morning.

God knows how many updates my addons will need as well, as I’m about a year out of date with them as well.

fingers crossed it all goes well.

Posting comments like this will never get your sim to run properly.  As I and many other experts have advised, it is not P3D's fault for the most part.  Heck, I can get way over 300 fps with no blurries or other anomalies with P3DV4.5 in a default configuration (i.e., no add-ons).  It is the most stable sim I have ever owned.  But why is this?  Is it because I have one of the latest and greatest system on Planet Earth?  Well, yeah! That it runs well over 50 FPS even with a lot of MegaScenery installed and some hardcore resource intensive airports or a great weather program like ASP4 (soon to be ASP5). A lot of people install the best looking scenery and aircraft possible but that's the eye-candy the developers are throwing at you.  You know they make more money if the scenery has a lot of eye-candy.  Eye-candy sells products.  Keeping the scenery or aircraft close to the default is not eye-candy and not too many people are going to buy something that doesn't give them a lot of immersion.  Sound files take up resources too.  Autogen is disastrous on many systems.  But not on mine.  I picked up about 30 fps with my 4.5 installation vs the 4.4.  And I have proof using the utility which records fps that is part of the FSUIPC utility.  The sim is now great, not just good, it is great and I am having a great time flying and enjoying the immersion I'm getting with the latest and greatest hardware and software for the add-ons.  I really do not see how anyone can pound P3D into the ground when many others, like me, are enjoying it without any problems.

If you do not upgrade to the latest P3D version you are just throwing your hard-earned money away.  You know they charge $199 for many of us for EACH version (i.e. version 1, 2, 3, and 4 but it is free for versions within versions upgrades).  So not upgrading to the latest version and then installing the updates from the add-on developers is wasting your money.  Most of the commercial airports and aircraft were updated with the bug fixes released in each new version.  Soon there will be a version 5 and you'll have to pay the $199 again for it.  Members are slowly running out of time to enjoy the current version with all of their complaints.  AVSIM has a CTD Guide that not only fixes most CTD's but also has many other suggestions for getting the sim and the sim add-ons to work properly.

I hope you attempts to update your P3DV4 goes well but remember, you have to update some of the addons too.  For instance, not updating ActiveSky software or the FSUIPC utility could cause a lot of problems and many do not know where to go to get it all fixed and updated.  Back in the old FSX days, the experts advised everyone to install the sim and run it before installing anything else.  For me, I installed FSX, ran it once, then installed SP1 to FSX, ran it once, and then installed SP2 or Acceleration.  If it was all running properly, I would then start installing the add-ons and would start up FSX after installing EACH addon.  Some others use pirating tools like the Migration Tool where an add-on developer didn't include an installer for installing their product into the latest version but he showed the developers by making a tool that would install it anyway.  They there were CTD's, unexpected freezes, and every one was saying, P3D sucks.  It wasn't P3D that gave you the trouble, it was some add-on developer who was taking their time coming up with an update and/or those using the Estonia Migration Tool.  I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and stop complaining about P3D and Lockheed Martin Techs who are trying to make P3D one of the best sims ever.

Best regards,

Jim

Here here, Jim, great post. I've been doing the same process since FS2004 days. I do like to see what the devs think my system can do and then go on from there. Especially with ORBX stuff I think a reboot (yep, still do 'em after deinstall/install every time. I know it's Win 10 but it still has a Registry after all) and then start the sim before moving on is the way to go. I generally have few addon problems and won't say it's because of this but...

As always, YMMV.

Gerald,

Thanks for your comments.  Orbx/FTX is eye-candy at its grandest.  It creates a lot of immersion.  Fortunately, Orbx has a way to get rid of eye-candy if a person's computer cannot handle it.  You can simply switch off the eye-candy.  But, if you leave it you are risking having issues.  FlightBeam airports have ways to cut down on the eye-candy too and so does FSDT.  I stopped using Orbx as they have few updates to fix issues.  For instance, try installing KLAS, KLAX with MegaScenery or Regional scenery Orbx provides.  The solution to make them compatible is long and requires the highest level of concentration.  The individual developers who provide these products to Orbx should know how to fix this with the installers for the Regions.  The installer could scan your system for MegaScenery or Orbx Regional scenery like SoCal/NoCal.  You click what you have and the installer takes over and installs only the components needed.  Then you don't have to risk loosing your life finding the incompatible scenery and turning it .OFF.  If you cannot find it, you risk looking for a tall building to jump off to prove to others you are very frustrated.  You not only have to edit the Regional stuff but also, in some cases the airports made by FSDT and turn some of their stuff off.  The compatibility forum at Orbx is second to none and the individual who maintains that forum is one of the best but when a developer has developed a piece of scenery that is not compatible with other popular scenery, he/she needs to fix their installer and make the process as easy as they can for some of us old guys.

Best regards,

Jim
