Anyone running the Rift on GTX 1070 SC2?

Recommended Posts

Interested to hear about the performance or whether I should go to 1080Ti?

Nice, I'm all set from the looks of it.

Hi, I have a gtx970 overclocked and I'm pretty satisfied at lower settings like single pass rendering, supersampling 1.1 or 1.2.

I'm waiting for a major upgrade like a really high res vr device. I've been using the rift for over 2 years now. I think the price/performance ratio is still very off. If I spend like 1000 Euro's I get marginally better be performance. My CPU is pretty old so I'd have to change that too.

If you have the money I'd go for the 1080 because I have very little buffer to run anything but clear skies or small aircraft in P3d.

Good luck

I run a GTX 1070 and I am pretty satisfied, several of my friends run the 1080 ti and one the 2080 ti and sure they can crank things up a bit. You will want to also assure you have a good processor able to achieve at least 4 GHz and I would suggest running in Single Pass Rendering mode in P3D while using the Oculus Debug tool with Pixel Density set to 1.5 - 1.7 and turn off ASW.

See my specs in my signature below'

I wish I looked to see before OR arrived that my card has only one HDMI, I can't really finish the configuration as I don't have the DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, so annoyed! 🙂

I would recommend:

DisplayPort to HDMI 2.0 Active Adapter

to avoid potential issues I purchased a “plugable” brand on Amazon since I had only one port for my Oculus Rift and needed another HDMI for my 4K TV monitor running on 30 Hz.

Thanks Joe, the plan is to be up and running by tonight. I may reach out to you with some configuration questions in the future if you don't mind. I found bunch of tips on YT on how to optimize the Rift, but there was nothing really P3D specific.

I got it setup, my first reaction was a little underwhelming. Super choppy when I turn my head. Granted, I had company from out of town the entire weekend and didn't make the effort to tweak anything. I did however overclock my 7700k from stock 4.2 to 4.8 - I'll start tweaking this thing during this week.

Don't forget if you are flying P3D to set single pass rendering.

My problem with these kind of video's is that it seems to be the view and resolution you see in the headset AND IT IS NOT... I'm glad I have sold again my Samsung for nearly the same price I've collected one but feeling deep mislead by these kind of VR propaganda.

Just my 2 cents...

Apparently your headset had issues, since my image is actually better than the video, which I thought was a bit dark and fuzzy.

There really is a learning curve for getting the best out of these headsets.

Under the virtual reality dropdown, you will see a virtual reality settings tab.

Under HMD Display Mode, make sure single pass is selected.

You can also experiment with other modes 🙂
