From the Taurus Mountains to the Anatolian Plateau

Once more a flight in Turkey, this time visiting the Taurus Mountains and the Anatolian Plateau.

littlenavmapkarte20191kju7.jpg

We depart from Antalya Intl. Airport (LTAI). Antalya is the fifth-most populous city in Turkey, located on Anatolia's southwest coast bordered by the Taurus Mountains. Antalya is the largest Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast with over one million people in its metropolitan area.
The city that is now Antalya was first settled around 200 BC by the Attalid dynasty of Pergamon, which was soon subdued by the Romans. Roman rule saw Antalya thrive, including the construction of several new monuments, such as Hadrian's Gate, and the proliferation of neighboring cities. The city has changed hands several times. Ottoman rule brought relative peace and stability for the next five hundred years. The city was transferred to Italian suzerainty in the aftermath of World War I but was recaptured by a newly independent Turkey in the War of Independence.
Antalya is Turkey's biggest international sea resort, located on the Turkish Riviera. Large-scale development and governmental funding have promoted tourism. A record 12.5 million tourists passed through the city in 2014.
Antalya Airport (LTAI) is an international airport located 13 km (8.1 mi) northeast of the city center. It is a major destination during the European summer leisure season due to its location at the country's Mediterranean coast. It handled 18,741,659 passengers in 2016, making it the third-busiest airport in Turkey and the thirtieth-busiest in Europe. The airport has two international terminals and one domestic terminal. Antalya is one of the major airports on the Southwest of Turkey, the others being Bodrum and Dalaman.

From here we turn north-west to reach our next stop, the airport of  Çardak (LTAY). Çardak is a town and a district of Denizli Province of Turkey. It is situated on the road from Denizli to Ankara near the banks of the Lake Acıgöl.
A very notable sight in the town is the caravanserai of Hanabad, built in the 13th century by the local ruler Esedüddin Ayaz during the reign of Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I. It bears typical characteristics of Seljuk caravanserais and on its stones are carved fish, cow, and human relics.
A small village until the early years of the Turkish Republic, Çardak started growing as of 1958 when it was made into a district. Streets and buildings are well arranged and it is a tidy little town.
The economy is based on agriculture, and surface mining of sodium sulfate reserves in Lake Acıgöl whose name means "the bitter lake". Services rendered to the airport are also taking an increasingly important share in the town's economy. The airport offers service to many cities in Turkey and to Teheran, Iran.

Only about 30 miles east lies our next stop, Isparta. Isparta Süleyman Demirel Airport (LTFC), inaugurated on July 21, 1997. It is 28 km from the city, named after the 9th President of Turkey, Süleyman Demirel, who is a native of Isparta. The city's population was 222,556 in 2010 and its elevation is 1035 m. It is known as the "City of Roses".
The city lies close to a fault line and is thus prone to violent earthquakes. Some historical buildings and houses remain from the 19th century but are rare compared to the number of modern buildings.
There are several important mosques in Isparta. The main economic activities are the production of rosewater and handmade carpets. Tourism, both local and increasingly international due to "biblical tourism", is becoming an important source of revenue. In the early 20th century, carpetmaking was a major industry in Isparta.

Next stop is Konya Air Base (LTAN). Konya is a major city in south-western edge of the Central Anatolian Plateau and is the seventh-most-populous city in Turkey with a metropolitan population of over 2.1 million. Konya is an economically and industrially developed city and the capital of Konya Province.
There are a number of industrial parks. In 2012 Konya's exports reached 130 countries. A number of Turkish industrial conglomerates have their headquarters in Konya.
While agriculture-based industries play a role, the city's economy has evolved - among other industries - into a center for the manufacturing of components for the automotive industry, machinery manufacturing, agricultural tools, casting industry, plastic paint and chemical industry, leather industry.
Konya Airport is a military airbase and public airport. It is also used by NATO. Opened to the public in 2000, the airport is 18 km from the city. In 2006, Konya Airport served 2,924 aircraft and 262,561 passengers. Konya Airport is home to the 3rd Air Wing of the 1st Air Force Command of the Turkish Air Force. In 2015 a completely new airport terminal was opened with the capacity increased above 5 times the actual.

We continue our flight over the Anatolian Plateau and stop at Kapadokya (LTAZ), located 30 kilometers (19 mi) in the northwest of the city of Nevşehir, formerly Neapolis and Muşkara. It is the capital district of Nevşehir Province in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. According to the 2010 census, the population of the district is 117,890 of which 85,634 live in the city of Nevşehir. The district covers an area of 535 km2 (207 sq mi), and the town lies at an elevation of 1,224 m (4,016 ft).
The city is located at a distance of 290 km (180 mi) from the capital Ankara and is within the historical region of Cappadocia. According to Herodotus, in the time of the Ionian Revolt (499 BC), the Cappadocians were reported as occupying a region from Mount Taurus to the vicinity of the Euxine (Black Sea).
The name, traditionally used in Christian sources throughout history, continues in use as an international tourism concept to define a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular, characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage.
The traditional main sources of income of the city - carpet weaving and viticulture - have been overtaken by tourism, because of its proximity to the underground shelters, the fairy chimneys, monasteries, caravanserais and the famous rock-hewn churches of Göreme.

About 40 miles to the east lies today's destination, Erkilet (LTAU). Erkilet Intl. Airport (LTAU) is a military airbase and public airport located 5 km (3.1 mi) north of the city of Kayseri, a large industrialized city in Central Anatolia, Turkey. It is the seat of Kayseri Province. Kayseri is located at the foot of the extinct volcano Mount Erciyes that towers 3,916 meters (12,848 feet) over the city. The city retains a number of historical monuments, including several from the Seljuk period. While it is generally visited en route to the international tourist attractions of Cappadocia, Kayseri has many attractions in its own right: Seljuk and Ottoman-era monuments in and around the city centre, Mount Erciyes as a trekking and alpinism centre, Zamantı River as a rafting centre, and the historic sites of Kültepe, Ağırnas, Talas and Develi.

Flight Plan
The flight plan in *pln and *gfp format is available here

Aircraft
The flight has a length of about 360 NM, so we should choose a plane capable of cruising with about 160 KIAS. The DA 62, the Bonanza or other faster GA single engine or twins are suitable. As always please fly what you like.

Scenery
This route should be covered by FTX Global and Vector. The airports are all freeware of pretty good quality and can be downloaded here . You may need to run the elevation correction tool from ORBX' Vector to avoid terrain errors.

Time, Weather and Season.
If at all possible, we shall use real weather. The airports look best with Summer or Spring season. I recommend using a date in Summer.

You should set your departure time to 3:30 pm local time. If you selected 21 June as your date you will arrive at dusk.

Where & When
Date and time: Saturday, February 23, 2019. 1900 UTC.
Where: AVSIM RTWR Teamspeak - Casual Flights Channel
Teamspeak Server Address: ts.teamavsim.com
Cross-Platform Multiplayer: JoinFS. (FSX, FSX-SE, and P3D).

If you want to help others enjoy the multiplayer experience, don't forget to enter your aircraft details on the multiplayer spreadsheet (linked here ). Your courtesy will save others a lot of time and effort. Thanks!

LTAN & LTAU seem to be the only ones to disable..

Hey Roman, would all recent Carenado planes (P3Dv4) be a potential security problem for other members of a JoinFS session?

A couple of quick notes on the interesting addon Turkish airports to which Gunter linked.

1. Note Roman's recommendation (above) to disable Vector AEC for LTAN and LTAU.

2. Check your simulator's elevations for Kapadokya (LTAZ). If everything is fine, then great. However, in my P3Dv4 setup with FreeMeshX, the runways/taxiways are above ground level. Rather than "fixing" this, a workaround would be to disable one of the author's files. Disable the "CVX_LTAZ_TERR.BGL" file. (Perhaps change the name by appending ".OFF" to the current name.) I don't know what we lose by implementing the workaround, but at least everything is at the same level (more-or-less at the default airport level).

Installing Kapadokya (LTAZ) has an extra advantage. On his final leg, Gunter has provided us with a beautiful "Easter Egg" that becomes apparent when we depart on the runway heading east out of Kapadokya. That surprise is part of the addon LTAZ scenery. (The addon scenery is plenty usable, even without the workaround above. If you would like to see the surprise, and are uncomfortable with renaming BGL files, you can use the unaltered LTAZ addon by being careful about where you taxi.)

3. The final destination Erkilet (LTAU), built for FSX, is fine. However, in P3D many of the buildings do not show up. The airport has lots of details, but no buildings. If you like addon sceneries, this version without buildings is better than the default which is a minimalist bare tarmac rendition.

Thanks for pointing all these points out Mike!

I had problems with the buildings not showing up at LTAY, but only when I flew to it again today and only on the ground. From the air all buildings were visible.

Another option for LTAZ if you don't want to disable  "CVX_LTAZ_TERR.BGL" is to set mesh resolution to 38m. While the airport is still elevated, the elevation variation is blended across a broader distance so as to be almost indistinguishable.
