I5 9600k

Was in the local PC shop and asked the person what would be a good gaming flight sim set up. He said that the i5 9600k would be better then the i7 6700k that i use now. can someone confirm this.

I went from 4790K to 9600K and about doubled my FPS 25-35 to 55-65, both in fresh 4.4 install with PMDG, Skyforce, UTL, UTX, etc. etc.

P.S. Ram went from 2133 to 3200 that must help too.

I just upgraded my PC to the following:

i5 9600K, Asus Prime Z390 - A & 16GB G-Skill DDR4 3000. This will go along side my Antec 920 water cooler and GTX 1080 TI. I fly X-Plane 11 exclusively and my PC is not used for anything else. Before I had an i5 3570K @ 4.4 GHz

For the price point for me this option was perfect, I didn't want to spend the extra on the i7. I am so happy with the performance, the 9600K is a perfect match for my 1080 TI. I fly complex addons like the FF A320, FF 766, FF 757 & Zibo 737 with Ortho4XP photo scenery. The sim is so fluid and is a joy to fly and that is with the settings cranked pretty high. I did some basic testing after the install then went straight for 5GHz. Currently at 1.35v and my temps while using X-Plane sit around 50 degrees.

I did lot's of research before upgrading and from what I read both the i5 8600K & i5 9600K are both great options right now.

I can definitely reccomend the i5 9600K, get some decent cooling and crank that puppy up to 5GHz 🙂

My setup is an 8600k overclocked to 5ghz, and a msi rtx 2080 gaming x trio. Runs 4k very fluid without any stutters whatsoever...even with the fslabs a320 which is very hard on the cpu. Even on max settings it has no problems keeping up.

I personally think that the 8600k and 9600k is the best cpu for p3d.

Bit of an update,

My 6 year old Antec 920 was getting a little noisy so I decided not to risk my investment and pulled it out. I had been doing some research and opted to try a Noctua NH - D15S

Yes this thing is huge but I have a full size CoolerMaster case, the install was a breeze and I have to say this thing is insane, I get better temps than I did with the Antec water cooler, just completing a 4 hour flight in the Zibo 737-800 and my average temps are around 50 degrees. That's a 5GHz overclock @ 1.35V

I am pretty impressed and there's nothing to worry about. If you have a big enough case and are in the market for a new CPU cooler I can hands on recommend the Noctua 🙂

Hi  thanks for the input Richdem i am looking a building a rig in now but it has been doing my head in. I only fly in X plane now i just cant do PD3 or FSX anymore its painful. I have been flying the Hot start TBM. I just hope PMDG and some of the others come over to X plane.

If the price difference to a 9700k is not a problem , that one suit XP11 better then the 9600k.

+ better binned cpu clock higher thens the 9600k at same vcore , 2 more cores , cashe memory 12mb., runs smother in the sim

i have build 2 XP11 systems for friends both cpus set at 5.2ghz 1.35v cooling AIO H115 , tested 4 differnt 9600k fair cpu but not as good as the 9700k

I have had a chance to do some great testing since I did my upgrade. I have a real stable 5.0GHz overclock, temps are around 50 degrees with my new Noctua NH-D15S (Air Cooler)

I also overclocked my 1080TI. Currently flying over the French Pyrenees at 35,000 with Ortho4XP ZL16 and it is absolutely stunning to look at plus I can maintain 60FPS with my 42 1080P LED TV and boy is it ever fluid. I was considering trying a 4K TV but I cannot believe it would get any better lol. The only other thing I may do is up my RAM to 32GB as I have seen a few times where I hit 15GB usage.

My next door neighbour is a retired 727 Flight engineer and flew most of his career over Europe. I took the Zibo 737 out for a spin with him last night and he could not believe how realistic the sim looked.

After simming for the last 7 years I now finally have reached the point I didn't think I would ever get too. Yes the 9700K is a great processor but I can honestly say you will not be disappointed with the i5 9600K. It is all about balancing your system. Get it right and you will be very happy.

ROFL  ....@ 15 GB'eeeeees!?!?   Wow, and I thought I was pushing it on a 2k screen using 10GB of ram usage (8.5 GB used by p3D).

For now I am pretty pleased. I think my biggest surprise is how well the Noctua NH-D15S performs, it is a work of art but man does it ever do a good job

I am currently using the single fan that came with the cooler. I did however change the exhaust fan at the rear of the case for a Noctua NF-S12A

I thought about putting a 2nd fan on the cooler but to be honest I am pretty happy with temps in the mid 50's I am still playing with the fan profiles on my motherboard so I may be able to improve things a little
