What features would you like to see in P3Dv5?

such as sloping taxiways and runways

LM just needs to upgrade AI so it can also use them. Sloped RWY/TWY are already no problem with P3D (except for the AI).

One aspect that annoys me at the moment is somewhat unpredictable autogen exclusion surrounding addon airports. There is a large patch of missing ORBx TrueEarth GB South autogen short of the runway 27L and 27R approaches when using SimWings London Heathrow Professional, and it is annoying the hell out of me!

I would check with SimWings to see if that is their exclusion poly -- that way you can really determine if it is Orbx or SimWings or the sim itself.

Oh, it is definitely SimWings Heathrow Professional that is the source of the problem. If I disable the airport, the autogen returns.

I've skipped v4  and I'll go v5 if LM  does something for at least one of these issues :

1- Terrain

 - No repositioning of default (ie outside OrbX fat regions) airports which are for the vast majority somewhat off with the consequence, for instance, of roads, tracks, streams crossing many airport areas

 - No sloping runways which leads to runways partially or entirely in trenches or plateaus when you add a sharper mesh. .

Tired to do the job myself with ADE (whenever possible).

2- Aircraft

Water physics for floatplanes is arcadish

3- Atmospheric light rendering engine outdated.

4- FS2K2 old ATC

Really? You skipped v4 for all of this nonsense? How are the OOM's in v3? 🙂

You've just described Xplane there!

Nah, but seriously I'd love to see v5 COMPLETELY leave the ESP/FSX environment; yes we'd lose all backward compatibility with addons - but it has to happen eventually. Just look at XP11 compared to v4.4, or what Aerofly FS2 is capable of...really does make v4 look like old tech.

LM have certainly done wonders with the creaky old ESP engine but I think we've reached the limit of what it can do, and be reasonably adapted to do (gfx/performance/etc etc).

P.s. I've also invested £100's, possibly £1000's into FSX/P3D addons over the last 8 years or so - so I don't make statements about losing backward compatibility lightly. Needs to happen though.

Do you think X-Plane made a new engine? No, they improved on what they had. Swapping out modules with newer stuff e.g PBR in the graphics renderer.

The ‘engine’ is the whole thing. They aren’t going to bin 20 years of development.

What I was trying to say was the hardware has to be available before the software can take advantage of it.

Why do you think the hardware isn't available yet? Look at all our system specs, anyone who does 'regular gaming' stares their eyes out when I tell them what system I have. And I still run into scenarios with bad FPS and stutters. I use a 4k TV for simming which works nicely but I noticed my system is working hard to give me a good experience. I connected a normal full HD monitor to do some tests and even though my hardware was running noticeably lower than on 4k I still didn't get a single frame more. I'm attributing that to the now better, but still rusty ESP engine.

Without seeing what your hardware is I cannot comment. You don’t even say what sim you’re running.

I swapped a 3Gb 7800GTX for a 8Gb 1080 and in FSX saw no difference whatsoever with fps. But when I installed P3D v3 the performance was transformed. That’s because L-M rewrote the code to push the graphics processing into the GPU. That will continue with future releases.

Depending on how they structured their BGL's you might be able to fix it yourself.  This assumes they have loaded the exclusion polys in a bgl file that ADE can edit.  If they did, you might be able to load up that bgl and change the properties of that exclusion poly (untick excludeautogen).  Otherwise I would contact SimWings.

Sounds like that's no wish for v5, but rather a wish for SimWings to adjust their scenery a little bit.

Aside from that, the ability to control runways in use directly from the sim and highest up on my wish list would be a complete rebuild of the ATC and AI system. The default ATC is hopelessly off the pace and AI behaviour is at best erratic and at worst plain daft.

If the base ATC and AI platform was improved then I’m sure add-on developers would pile in to customise it.

+1 nothing more disheartening than seeing 26R in use at Gatwick 🤦‍♂️

Making it a component that is extensible by the community and developers would be great.

Hello! What features would you like to see implemented in Preprar3D v5? For me, I have a few wishes. For one, I wish that you could change the color and transparency of the menu bar in sim. Another thing is that a few default airliners (like the ones from PMDG) in the game by default. Granted, this would raise the cost of the sim, but there should also be an option to buy it with just default planes- no airliners for a cheaper price. And finally, I wish to see backward compatibility with x32 planes in an x64 sim- this would give people that dumped a lot of money into FSX or earlier versions of P3D (before V4) use their planes in a better sim. Now, what would you like to see? Thanks!

Backward compatibility, and the opening up of a huge freeware and payware market still out there, is not a bad idea but I must tell you my ultralight trike, created with FSDS2 and XML gauges, works flawlessly in P3D4.xx and flies as I intended it way back when for FS9, so we are going back more than a decade since I made it.  There are one or two minor texture glitches on the engine but I am the only one who knows.  A P3D4.4 member recently loaded it into the sim given the absence of the old trike bundled with MSFS...

Also I would like crosswind handling to be revisited, I find myself still needing too much rudder in a light 5 knot direct crosswind compared to real life where just a resting foot with some light touches kept me centerline in a very light aircraft to boot.  I find Xplane11 handles that issue better than P3D4.xx now.

Main reason why I fly sans autogen and just photoreal, except in the oceanic environments.  Again, Xplane11 had better autogen, easier on performance, and better more accurate landclass.  However Xplane11 is very weak in city detail scenery inclusive with FSX and P3DV4.xx.  I did find Manhattan poorly represented in P3D4.4 however, a missing new WTC I easily caught and added with freeware.  The Freedom tower is finished now, along with nearby supertall towers closer to central park, and I hope P3D adds those in the future or some kind freeware vendor.  Also, SFO scenery, and LA scenery were poor until I added MSE which enhanced them.  But Xplane11 failed entirely there with the exception of some good add-ons for PHX, SFO and SAN...
