July 21, 200619 yr Hi, I am using a 3y/o system that I moved from a 2.53 P4 to a [email protected] on a 152mHz dual DDR memory system some time ago. Excluding the video card, what sort of CPU power does a new mainboard and memory with Core Duo offer against my current sys? I am inclined to wait for an upgrade and do the whole thing when DX10 becomes available, and by then hopefully the CPU/Mem systems will be even more potent. Thanks,Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. July 21, 200619 yr Noel I suggest you look at the comparisons done on Tom's Hardware and Anandtech sites for exact quantitive analysis between cpus. In short, a Core2Duo delivers substantially more raw cpu power than your P4 [email protected]. And amazingly, requires less power, and generates less heat! July 22, 200619 yr I agree... it seems like upgrading to Core2 for much better performance is a "no brainer". Apparently they also overclock very well (the 6600, 6700) if you have the right motherboard.AMD wont have anything to compete with it until mid 2007.
