New build - Core count or High Frequency for P3D?

Hi all,

Current situation:

Currently use FS9 on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate (on and off as I have kind of lost the passion for flight sim).

Here's my current setup:

Phanteks Enthoo Pro TG
Antec HCP850W
Asus P6T
Intel i7 975 (stock) with Thermalright Archon SB-E X2 CPU cooler
8GB GSkill PC3-12800 (2x 4GB dual channel)
EVGA GTX1080 8GB
Seagate 480GB SSD + Samsung 500GB SSD + HGST 2TB + WD 8TB

Future Situation:

If Flight Sim 9 (inc. all of my addons) doesn't work on Windows 10; I am contemplating on upgrading to Prepar3D.

I'm looking at Ryzen 3700X currently as the leaked specifications look very impressive and I would benefit from the extra cores when converting ripped blurays and dvds to my media drive.

However I mainly game on my PC so higher frequencies tend to better for the latter? At least to my knowledge this is true?

I only plan on upgrading my CPU, M/B, RAM and I will be getting an M.2 SSD for Windows 10 and applications.

Does Prepar3D work best with higher frequencies or would extra cores be the better route to go?

Assume I would get such addons as: PMDG 737 and 747, REX textures etc.

For the CPU, higher frequencies.. but do not forget fast RAM and capable GPU... your 1080 should be OK though.

Will have to wait and see what Intel have to offer in regards to higher frequencies when AMD release their Ryzen 3000 series.

However, if it is a difference of only 2-300MHz I'll probably favor the extra cores over that.

FS9?  Didn't know people were still using that 15 year old software.  

You should get a Intel 7700k and a new motherboard and ram and use p3d.
