Airspeed? Did you mean ground speed?

And in a related question: If you run inside the school bus will it get to the bus stop faster?

I alter wind in both Xplane11 and P3D4.4 to add realism to my landings.  I usually set a low base winds with higher gusts and variable wind direction.  It provides the best realism as compared to my real life fixed wing landings and requires my use of coordinated flight and slips to offset the crosswind component, or I fly in crabbed and kick out the crab in ground effect.

Likewise. I always use real-world weather, and accept whatever effect the injected winds provide - either positive or negative.

I do look at current weather charts for winds aloft, and try to choose a flight plan route that will avoid strong headwinds, or put me in a position to take advantage of strong tailwinds when possible.

The only time I will set specific weather conditions in the sim is when I am practicing takeoff and landing circuits - especially in an simulated aircraft that is new to me.

I use real world weather, but adjusted to limit wind speed at ground level, so I can manage the landing in light GA planes and helicopters.

I never modify the other wind layers. I do most of my flying in the FSEconomy game where boosting your ground speed too much with a tailwind can hit a red flag, and might trigger a canceled assignment.

I have used real weather from time to time if conditions in Phoenix where I live are interesting from my ground observations.  I have also flown real weather when tropical systems come ashore in the US to experience the variable wind speeds near the center of such storms.  But I still like the challenge of setting my own wind parameters so I can practice variable crosswind component landings with gusts, making it very similar to real world landings I have flown.  And it does not take gusts that strong to make things interesting, it is the difference between the base speed, gust speed and wind direction that makes such landings interesting and quite believable for me, I have to use inputs quite similar to what I used when I was actively flying in real life.

I flew trikes which are somewhat less bothered by light crosswinds, since there is no rudder to worry about, just weight shift handles the landings and in high winds aloft exceeding 25 knots I have managed trike flying quite well, feeling wonderfully relaxed when flying them, but again I gave up active trike flying in 2008.

I will return to active flying later this year, either Light Sport or if I can get a vision waiver for some limited vision in my left eye, general aviation where used aircraft can be cheaper than used LSA's, oddly enough, and they are much safer and can carry more than one pax.

To answer the question put by @bean_sproutwho, having started this poll, has not answered any posts I would say this.

Concorde broke a trans-Atlantic record back in 1996 when, with the aid of a strong tailwind, it flew from New York to London in 2hr 52m 59s.

I suppose if I stopped using AS and injected some ridiculous tail wind into P3D I could probably break that record. Would it give me any satisfaction? Absolutely not.

I have seen a lot of polls on AvSim over the years but this has to be the most bizarre. 😧
