Formula for climb gradient % and feet pr NM and climb desentangel

Recommended Posts

Quick rule of thumb: multiply your groundspeed in knots by the gradient in % and that will give you the rate of climb (or descent) you require.

E.g. 5% gradient at 150kt = 750fpm.

In the flight deck or theoretically?

For a rough rule of thumb, gradient in % × 0.6 will approximate the angle.

If you want an exact answer then you would need to get your calculator out and do some trigonometry 😉
