Yeah Jeroen, guy with camera = terrorist with AK47. I just love your logic. I have gone inside aircraft with my camera, I have gone into flight decks to speak with the pilots... It's really not a big deal as long as you explain yourself. I don't see anyone calling it attempted terrorism and screaming bloody murder when A.net spotters get to walk the airport ramps and take photos... Chase: I've taken photos inside airport terminals, you simply have to ask around to make sure it's OK. The trick is being very polite, CONFIDENT, and not lying. Tell it like it is, be down-to-earth, and be willing to answer any questions they ask. As long as you cooperate and understand what your rights are, don't feel afraid to do these things. If in doubt, ASK. If they say no, comply. It's really that simple. :) If it wasn't possible, you'd never see people with ramp access, no photoreal FS sceneries... So don't be discouraged by the paranoid talk and people wanting to make you feel like you're helping Osama by practicing your hobby or wanting to do something that's perfectly right and straight. This constant paranoia and distrust is EXACTLY what the terrorists wanted to cause.Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpgMember of SJU Photography. In many states in the US it's perfectly legal to carry a loaded firearm, yet when you're going to the airport you have to leave it behind...Mind you that I'd not mind that ban being lifted, those people would be far more effective (and cheaper) at stopping (or more likely preventing) hijack attempts than a few skymarshalls who are on maybe one flight out of a hundred. There is NO difference. You're trying to enter an area to which access is restricted for those with legitimate business there. It's not about you having a camera, it's about you having no business there. You don't work there, and you're not travelling, therefore you're not allowed to go there. In the past when everyone who wanted to was allowed in the departure area this meant a constant major security breach as there was no way the security staff could keep track of all those people and enact effective security checks on them all.The US has in fact been extremely lucky that noone abused that lack of security to any great degree over the decades, it's been quite different elsewhere.

True, one of our freedoms is the right to bare arms. But thats in public, from there, if you plan to access any buildings, they can refuse you to enter.I think that if some one is walking around with an .223, its a bit obvious. When was the last time we heard of someone walking through a Major Airport dragging a rifle with them? Go on and try that one, and chances are, you wont make it 10ft through the front door.I highly doubt a terrorist will walk though an airport with their AK47 to make a connection. I can see it now... Houston Police officer approaches terrorist asking, "excuse me sir, may i ask what you are doing with an AK at the airport?" Terrorist responds, "officer, i am making a connecting flight to denver, i wont shoot untill we get up, you have my word"I really dont believe you have to do a scan of someone to sight a rifle... If someone plans to hijack a aircraft, i doubt one of their steps is to walk through a terminal, and board a aircraft, wagging around an AK47. In 9/11, no one brought a gun on board. And if i remember right, citizens have never been allowed to carry on a firearm. So its my believe, that a terrorist dragging a assault rifle through an airport and to board an aircraft is at the same odds as the people movers going beyond the 75ft stretch to relieve people, and to just take them direct to their destination at blazing speeds at the concorde level.:-wave

There is NO difference.Of course not, Jeroen. I should proceed to hijack a plane using my camera. By your logic, it should be just as effective, seeing as how there's NO difference between a gun and a camera in your eyes. :-roll Get a grip, buddy. You're comparing apples and oranges. You're trying to enter an area to which access is restricted for those with legitimate business there.Yes, I am. And as long as those working there are willing to let me do so, guess what: It's none of your business whether I am trying to do so or not. :) As long as I have permission and approval from those you call "people with legitimate business there", I don't see where you start having a say on what I, or Chase, can or can't do. As long as we're willing to submit to a security and background check to do so, and if those checks satisfy the airport staff, what's it to you? Or are you implying you're in a position to identify threats before the TSA does? ;)It's not about you having a camera, it's about you having no business there. You don't work there, and you're not travelling, therefore you're not allowed to go there.Wow man, you better call up the SJU tower administrator, because I've no business there in your view, yet it's possible to get a security clearance to visit it!!! OMGZ TEH TERR0RIZT!!!!!11 :-lolMy friend, I am sorry, but you started off on the wrong foot. You are arguing under the assumption that the people working there have a problem with us (spotters) being there, which is simply not true for the most part. Usually what happens is ignorant politicians or people who have no scope of what's going on (like you in this case) think that by banning hobbyists and others who are actually vigilant of day-to-day operations they're protecting the airport, when that's simply not so. As a matter of fact, we're an additional set of eyes to spot something unusual, and we're a community that is (for the most part) willing to comply with additional security checks as long as we're allowed to do what we love. I wouldn't mind registering with the airport and doing a background check to be allowed to spot without getting harassed by guards. And let's not kid ourselves... Do you truly think that if a terrorist wanted to get himself inside the terminal he'd go through the screening, paranoia, and widespread idiocy we spotters put up with instead of buying a plane ticket and getting immediate access? :-lol If you're planning a terrorist attack, I doubt buying a cheap-o plane ticket to gain terminal access is that big an obstacle for you.If you're willing to let the government chain you to your desk to make "sure" you're "safe", feel free. Me? I'll still go on with my life as I did yesterday, and I will still pursue my hobby and passion as I always have. Go hide in the basement while I go spotting, because who knows, I might shoot down a plane with my uber-ballistic camera!!!! :-lol Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpgMember of SJU Photography. >Really? You actually knew he was meeting someone who couldn't>carry their own bag?MGH,Personally I think you should be more concerned with how easy it really can be to get to the gate. Don't pull a defensive move on someone here...there's more things to worry about in life. You wann whine...go whine to the airport ops.Have a great day, and don't let your insecurity give ya a heart attack! :)

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I worked at KABE for two years, six mponths after 9/11. Any one still can be on the ramp with aproved escort. So, if you know a pilot, or a caterer, mechanic, et cetera, no problem. Contractors have to work at airports all the time, it's less hassle to babysit them than aprove them all.Love the report about a woman missing her flight because her child's name resembled a known terrorist. At the time, her child was 1 years old.Best Regards, Donny:-wave
