ASP4 Networked Installation Worthwhile?

Recommended Posts

I've read that ASP4 doesn't use much PC resources. I also understand that ASP4 can be run on a networked PC so as to not take computer resources that could otherwise be used by P3D v4.

I have an i7-4790K @ 4.6 GHz, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2080 GPU. Is it worthwhile to put ASP4 on a networked PC? Am I likely to see any difference in P3Dv4 performance between PC configurations?

Thanks.

I understand that whatever you gain buy moving ASP4 to another system you will loss in the networking. I would say that the answer to your question is definitely not!

There is one definite advantage: You can look up the AS moving map and make adjustments to the settings without the AS UI disturbing display on the main monitor.

Kind regards, Michael

I found it to be a small but worthwhile advantage and if you have an extra PC that can be networked there are other advantages like networking Little NavMap and other associated ATC programs etc.. So I have setup ASP4 both ways and decided to keep it on my client PC. Now I have an extra powerful laptop PC I use for personal use sitting next to my flight sim PC so it was an easy decision for me, would I buy a second PC for this use probably not.

Thanks, Dave, Michael, and Joe.

I do have an admin laptop sitting the same room and on the LAN that I use to network the two dedicated P3D PCs.  I can't see the laptop screen while in my cockpit, but I don't know that that is a problem.  If I do whatever flight planning and then start ASP4 on the laptop, then start P3D in the cockpit, I don't know that I would need to look at the laptop monitor while actually flying.

I use it networked, with air hauler 2 and rex skyforce on my laptop. It’s a little more convenient than having to keep alt-tabbing to various apps.

djbully - Please tell me about how you use SkyForce in a networked environment.  I assume you're not using the SkyForce Weather Engine because you're using Active Sky.  Thanks.

Hi, another thing to mention is that you should make sure you are on Ethernet rather than WiFi!

As for Skyforce you have to turn off all the weather engine bits, but leave the cloud sync thing on. I forget exactly what it’s called, I’m on holiday and can’t check.

A good guide is here

hope that helps 😉

Thanks, djbully.

Does anyone know precisely what the SkyForce "Is SkyForce part of a network?" does?  The manual doesn''t really explain its function...  Thanks.

WiFi or wired shouldn't make any difference so long as your WiFi and wired setups are all on the same subnet.

I use wired for everything... even if I don't necessarily need to. :)

That is a good philosophy 👍

I’ve used WiFi several times over the years. I find that it will degrade over time. So it’s pretty solid for a year or so then it starts to get random disconnects and that is very frustrating.

I think the radioactive parts of the receivers degrade over time and need to be replaced. I got fed up with it and just run a wire to wherever I need it. No more headaches 🤗

one more, if you happen to have 2 P3D V4 systems one for GA and second for TubeLiners or P3DV4.3 second P3DV4.4 no need for a second lic only change the adress in the simconnect file
