The A340 Part 12 - Crossing the Pond

Recommended Posts

Following on from my previous post (here), I'm in KSFO and about to fly another one of Lufty's 16 A340-600's. They have some based in Frankfurt (that we flew to Seoul) and others based in Munich, which is what we're going to fly here.

DLH459 leaves at 10:50pm and is now operated by an A380 but last season, it was this fine beast.

Pax view out of the economy seat, pretty much a full moon tonight.

Next flight will be to MMMX, a hot and high airfield surrounded by mountains, always an interesting day out.

I remember the first time I crossed the pond in real life, way back in '77, on a DC8-63.  It was the longest flight in my life up to that time, I was almost sixteen then on a school trip to Europe.  I remember staring at the ocean below, thinking of Lindburgh as he crossed the Atlantic.  Lindburgh's landing was on May 21st, 1927 almost exactly 34 years to the minute of my birthday in Chicago on May 21st, 1961.   So that Atlantic crossing I first made on the 50th of his crossing was special.  My last Atlantic crossing began on May 24th, 2017, a bit more than 90 years after Lindburgh's flight, on a non-stop from Phoenix to Heathrow.  How amazing it was to fly 40 years after my first crossing, and I flew six times in between and did two Pacific crossings as well among the hundreds of commercial and GA flights I have flown.

Thanks for reminding me of those hanging angels wings in space with these screenshots!

John
