Hello. I am thinking about upgrading my cpu or graphics card to increase my frame rate on Prepar3d. As I've downloaded scenery, the frame rate starts to drop to the point that it's getting difficult to do everything well.

The specs I have on my computer now are:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 CPU @ 3.20GHz

RAM: 8GB

Graphics Card: Geforce GTX 960

When I'm running prepar3d my CPU usage is about 60-65%. Would I have to change out both CPU and graphics card, and which ones would you recommend I choose?

What's your GPU usage at? NV Inspector will tell you, as will GPU-Z.

Cheers!

Also bear in mind your CPU usage will depend on your P3D setting, and the CPU is still king in P3D v4 even.

For this computer, all you can do is increasing the RAM to 16GB, maybe you can find 2x8GB DDR3 RAM somewhere in a sale or second hand. The CPU could be replaced, yes, but this makes no sense anymore. Only a -K model (i5-4670K/4690K or i7-4770K/i7-4790K) overclocked to 4.5GHz would help, those CPUs you hardly get anymore for a reasonable price and then you would most probably need a better cooling solution and some knowledge on overclocking. The GPU could also be replaced by a faster variant, but then CPU bottleneck would stay. Replacing both CPU and GPU at the same time would end in a new build...

Personally, I would not invest a lot of money anymore into this build.

Greetings, Chris
