Airline callsigns

Recommended Posts

Hi, is it possible to insert airline callsigns or edit existing airline names where names have changed.

i.e. Norwegian instead of Scandinavian Airline System.

Recording new wavs is not an option. The people who recorded the existing wavs did so 13 years ago and most are probably uncontactable.

The only way is to find an existing wav that includes the word "Norwegian", use a wav editor to chop out the unwanted words and then save it with the same name as the existing wav file.

That would need doing for each of the pilot and controller voice sets.

Well , I think it should be pointed out, that no names have changed in real life, and that Norwegian and SAS are two different companies, both very much alive today, and flying under different call sign.

Norwegian (NAX) is a "Low Cost" Norwegian airline.

SAS (Scandinavian Airline System) is so far, and still, the national carrier of the three Scandinavian countries Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

Hi Ray, thank you for the response. I am afraid I did not make a good job of asking the correct question.

I should have said opening RC Main Screen then under Radar Contact Options.

The General Button

Plane Data

Airline or Company Name.

Is it possible to edit or insert Airline Names etc i.e. adding new airlines or deleting those that go out of business?

@navyman51, the names are all controlled by the contents of various txt files. Not possible to add new ones without new wav files and those who recorded the originals are no longer around.

Why not just ignore those you’re not interested in? Removing any files will have undesired consequences.

The program does a lookup of the airline name first in the c4.csv flat database file, then that references a script in the scripts folder for phrase pronunciation(s), and the scripts entry then references one or more wav files located in the relevant controller voice folder.

You can delete vestigial airlines by removing their respective lines in the C4.csv file in the data folder, with the standard caution that if you booger it up without saving a backup first, you may have to reinstall the program.

Adding new airlines usually won't work, because ultimately there have to be voice files in each controller/pilot voice that correspond to the phrases in the callsign.  Sometimes you can get lucky, though..."SAM" is the callsign used by USAF Special Air Mission flights (89th Airlift Wing at Andrews AFB), and it happened that there's a now-defunct Columbian airline in the database that used "SAM" as a callsign, so I was able to add the appropriate reference to make a new 89AW entry.  Alternatively, if the new callsign were composed of several already-existing words in the voice database, like "North American" , it would be possible to modify the callsign and script files to add a new callsign, because both "North" and "American" are existing voice files used in callsigns or other phraseology.
