How do you find the A220? I have almost all of their products for FS9 (except for maybe the Otter and the Shorts), but I find these planes may be a good addition to my FSX setup.

How did it go in P3D4?

Sorry, Luis, I haven't tried yet. I'll let you know when I do. 🙂

Hi Luis,

Like all VCol airliners, the A220 is systems light, but it is probably one of their better products. The virtual cockpit is quite well modelled and the textures are somewhat nicer than in their previous aircraft although there is still room for improvement here. Although the external model seems reasonably accurate, the textures are not the best and tend to give it a cartoon-like appearance but that is just my opinion and others might disagree.

Functionally, as I said, it is light, and, although most of the basic switches and knobs are animated, I am not sure how much is going on in the background. The AP is functional but like the AP on the VCol ATR it does appear to have a tendency to overcorrect when capturing the glideslope. The A220 comes with an FMS based on the FSX flight planner and which seems to be of fairly limited functionality and clearly does not replicate the FMS on the real aircraft. However I have not used the included FMS, preferring to fly instead using the GTN750, with which the AP is compatible.

Although I have absolutely no experience of real world jetliner flying, the A220 flies as I might expect it to and handles well although one has to be a little careful with the power settings to avoid overspeeding. Its always fun to try a new aircraft and, although systems-light, I have enjoyed the few flights I have carried out in the A220 and will certainly be doing a few more. However, if a better A220 ever appears, this version might well end up being retired to my virtual boneyard, joining some other VCol aircraft that have been displaced by better products. Still, the price is reasonable and I’m sure I’ll get my money’s worth out of it before then!

Carenado's ATR-42-500 supposed to be available for sale in couple of days $44.95.  I may get this or the S340 but then again, I'm not sure I want to keep buying Carenados as they are "looks" while lacking substance (kind of like my ex-wife).

Wow! Philip!

I have no experience of Carenado aircraft apart from their Cessna 337 Skymaster. I believe this to be one of their "good" planes. then again it is "only" a light twin not a complex turbo prop..

That explains why the VCol ATR became freeware! The Carenado version will definitely be a better “looker” but it is debatable whether the systems will be a significant improvement on those of VCol’s ATR.
