PayPal is probably the safest way to use a credit card or your bank account to purchase something. SimMarket keeps nothing regarding the credit card or bank account of the purchaser so anyone hacking into SimMarket would not be able to gain access to credit card or bank account information.  One would have to break into PayPal in order to get this information and PayPal has several layers of security. The only downside for shop owners like SimMarket is the fact consumers can go to PayPal and stop payment almost immediately if they are not satisfied with the product even though SimMarket stated explicitly that all sales are final.  Although an investigation would be conducted by PayPal into the consumer's complaint, the individual who bought the product would eventually lose but the money could be tied up for some time and this is not fair to SimMarket or the developer's who sell their products through SimMarket.  It just takes a few to ruin the secure experience of purchasing from SimMarket through PayPal.  I try to use PayPal as much as I can and will even pay the extra fees associated with the transaction as I want to have the best security when buying things on the Internet.  If one pays using their credit card, this information will be maintained at SimMarket so I hope they maintain the same level of security that PayPal offers.  I do not think that is possible.

I think you will find this is all down to PayPal being slow to pass on the money to the seller that's why ORBX dropped them and it seems SimMarket has the same problem, in affect SimMarket are giving PayPal unlimited credit for the products they sell, the danger here is others could follow.

I ran a web based business for a while and I received most paypal payments instantly.

AVSIM uses PayPal too and donations are received instantly.

I have used paypal for years with no issues that couldn't be resolved. I've sold stuff on ebay, and many purchases both nationally and internationally. Associated costs a little higher? Maybe but I'd rather pay a premium for a service I can trust.

As to Simmarket and the OP's issue - I find it hard to accept that the issues is on the SM side of the transaction. I would think we'd see quite a few complaints if that were the case.Although it's possible it's entirely SM's fault I find that improbable.

Odd. Same card over all that time?  Every time I have detected fraud over the years the very first act my credit card companies did was cancel the card and reissue with a different number.  100% of the time.  Who in tarnation is your credit card provider?  Honestly! Who!  because I want to stay away from that company!

I don't know the answer but ORBX dropped them and now it seems SimMarket will, and I don't think SimMarket would do something that could harm there sales.

I don't think so...if you look into how Simmarket's CC processing agent (Stripe) processes transactions, they don't maintain CC card data and never give the credit card info to the vendor.  PayPal, on the other hand, can keep your CC info on file, so that poses an additional security risk.

I refuse to use PayPal and my Barclaycard credit card for online flight sim purchases. Both charge 3% for currency conversion and are rip-off merchants as far as this Brit is concerned.

I've switched to another MasterCard which is best for foreign currency use. No conversion charges and good exchange rates. Plus, when I buy from SimMarket they send a code to my phone which I have to respond to before the transaction can be completed.

I've bought loads via SimMarket and consider them perfectly safe. I just think the OP has been unlucky.

and london you never use chip and pin in a gas station (garage) for that very reason

and I didn't look into it.  I have no idea what a Stripe is.  I was just saying (before Stripe/PayPal), retailers usually took down the credit card info and kept it on file in their store.  I will do more research into Stripe but I honestly had no idea there was such a thing.

I think everybody is getting out of PayPal. Much more trouble then they are worth for small business’s.

LOL, PayPal is owned by eBay and PayPal in 2018 had annual revenues of $15 B US. I don't think that they are too worried about SimMarket. Basically, SimMarket doesn't want to pay PayPal its processing fee, which makes no sense, since SimMarket still has to pay a credit card fee if you buy a product with a card.

Cigarette companies made a lot of money too. Doesn’t mean they were good. 🙂

Nope.  Go over to D'andre's new site.  simMarket's CEO details why.  Essentially, PayPal is asking far too many questions which they have no business asking.
