Airport not receiving cloud shadows

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Just wanted to ask if anyone's seen this issue and possibly have a fix for it. I just did a fly-around FlyTampa's EKCH, when I noticed it sticks out like a sore thumb during cloudy conditions. Bit of testing and I can see it's not actually receiving cloud shadows, despite all the 'Receive' shadow options are ticked. Quick search and there's multiple threads on it with various other airports, so I'm not alone nor is the issue confined to FlyTampa, though none of the threads seemed to have a solution as far as I could see. Question is, where do I raise the issue? With the airport developer, is it a configuration of the airport, is it with P3D or is it a local setting causing it? (Default shaders, clean install, happens in both 4.4 and 4.5). Here's a shot of the issue;

Thanks

Hey,

As mentioned, I already have every 'Receive' option ticked, even confirmed it by looking in the P3D.cfg, to make sure they are all set to 1. I also just want through the 4.4 to 4.5 upgrade, where I deleted and re-generated the .cfg, so I've double-confirmed the option should be set.

Sorry I overlooked that. Nothing I can do to assist you mate. Looks like a Foto-Overlay and on the left side there's a weird sharp-edged rectangle that looks as beeing part of the scenery.......

What tomatoshade/pta preset are you using?

I know a while ago when I used one of the AviationLads presets I had this problem.

edit: Nvm just realised you're using default shaders.

Try deleting these folders:

\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Shaders

and also

ShadersHLSL in your Prepar3D installation directory.

Then run the client installer and do a repair.

Had the same issue with some airports. Adding shadow receive for Simobjects cured it.

None at the moment. My first thought was also a shader issue, so I restored the original ShadersHLSL yet the issue remained. However, I did some more searching and found a thread on FT's forum dating back to 2017, which has gone unanswered. I also found this thread on fsdreamteam's forum with an identical issue, where virtuali talks about having to push a fix to make it P3Dv4 compatible: http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,15973.msg139452.html#msg139452

So at this point I'm just going to assume it's a FlyTampa issue and they need to fix it somehow. I've posted on their forums, hoping to get some input.

How did you restore shaders? You need to run a client repair after deleting the ShadersHLSL folder and it will reinstall the original ones.

If you don't delete the ShadersHLSL it won't replace the modified shaders.

Did you also delete

\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\Shaders

I always keep a backup of the original ShadersHLSL when I do an installation, so I just delete the modified ShadersHLSL and restore it with the original. And I also deleted the cache.

Try delete them and do a repair to get a fresh 4.5 version then clear the cache again, maybe something happened with your backup.

Only reason I'm suggesting is I'm 99% sure this is some sort of shader issue.

What weather software are you using? default?

In the screenshot I'm running Active Sky + SF3D. I've also tried with just default clouds + AS and default clouds. All seems to yield the same result.

Did some additional testing, it seems like it's confined to the ground texture itself, as they also mention in the fsdreamteam thread.

Ok, can you test using one of the default P3D airports? this would discard a problem with your simulator per say...

Just tested it with a few defaults, a few from OrbX, Flightbeam, Vidan etc. and they all look just fine. It's just FlyTampa that seems to be the culprit. So I'm going to assume it's the v4 compatibility thing with it.
