I can't decide between P3D and X-Plane 11

Recommended Posts

I have both. I fly X-Plane way more than I fly P3D.

VR is much better implimented in X-Plane than it is in Prepar3D.

The Sim is just a platform for whatever plane you wish to fly. Some screenhots, you cannot tell the difference between the two sims.

The Zibo Mod 737-800 for X-Plane 11 in VR with rain effects is jaw dropping and is a no brainer.

X-Plane 11 X-Plane 12 and MSFS2020  🙂

System specs: Windows 11  Pro 64-bit, Ubuntu Linux 20.04 i9-9900KF  Gigabyte Z390 RTX-3070-Ti , 32GB RAM  1X 2TB M2 for X-Plane 12,  1x256GB SSD for OS. 1TB drive MSFS2020

Get both. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

it pains me to say but I agree.. theres pros and cons to both.  A year ago I would of never of tried xp11.  alas ive been using XP11  (as well as p3d) 3 months and im 50 / 50 on it.

for example this morning I flew the tolis 319 from EGKK-LEIB-EGKK.

Whilst the tolis 319 is of the same standard as the qw 787 which in my opinion  is an average addon, compared the might of the fsl 319 and pmdg birds, the appeal of xp11 on this route was i could use it with the settings on high with orbx true earth UK, coupled with uk2k EGKK and payware scenery at the other end for LEIB.

With free HD mesh for the world and free hd mesh for spain it looked amazing, was smooth as silk and the only  things i needed to buy for this was..

xp11

tolis 319

activesky

uk2k egkk

Ibiza Pilot plus

orbx true earth

now had i done the same flight in P3D i would of had to of bought all of the above  (aerossoft ibiza instead) as well as rex, envtext, envshade, ORBX LC europe, and ultimate mesh by Pilots,

So pound for pound or dollar for dollar the cost of the flight in p3d would of been im guessing some 5 times the cost.

The kicker and heres the kicker is the FSL absolutely blows the tolis away alas its nearly 3 times the cost, but you get what you pay for.  remember a  Mcdonalds Cheese Burger vs a Five Guys.,

But.... xp11 looks WAY better than p3d and i would of had HUGE performance issues flying the FSL back into EGKK with true earth on, it would be a stutter fest, especially in 4k

I absolutely couldnt make my mind up this morning to wether use the xp11 or p3d on the route above, its took me 30 mins to decide.

Nothing is ever easy in this hobby,  as you can see theres pros and cons for both .  My personal opinion in short, XP11 looks good and is cheaper to run, but has crappy addon aircraft (apart from the zilbo) , however P3d has great addon aircraft but is a real pain to get up and tweak to look as good as xp 11

As a newbie it will save you many thousands of $$$ in the long run by going XP11

There are support forums if your having troubles. I tried it and found  it very intuitive

P3D comes with a 60-day money-back guarantee, so why not try it and decide for yourself?

Because the standard "without any addon" P3D does not convince anybody. It is totally outdated.

You need a bunch of addons to make P3D look really, really good. That is, why it is not easy to just try it as demo.

Get yourself knowledged and have both. It doesn’t cost you anything to carry that extra knowledge and experience around with you.

You then have the best of both worlds.

And you can get some of those addons from Flight1 with a 30-day money back guarantee!  Not to mention that some of the user's FSX addons may also work in P3D.

I use both.  Like any sim it takes a bit of time to get used to it.  I can recall I tweaked fsx for months (years?) To get it just right.  I think it took me a couple months to learn the ropes of XP10 and then later 11

I use the two of them, both have their shortfalls and bonuses. I use Xplane when I need to fly the A330 in my VA or P3D for the NGX (although the Zibo 737 gets a lot of flight time.).  They are both very good, but both need addons to improve the visuals and eye candy.

What a funny question...

It's like asking which is better... Chicken or Beef?

You don't have to decide between them, there is nothing stopping you from enjoying both.

I just switched from p3d to xplane. However both have their uses. I don't buy scenery and became fed up with the default P3d airports. The xplane ones are amazing and there are all free and regularly updated. I can also run my x5 3570k gtx970 machine with most sliders 3/4 right and still get good frame rates with no autogen popping or blurry textures. The zibo 737 with rain effects (YouTube it) are amazing and runs fine on my machine.

I stopped on P3d on v3.4. LM are not in the consumer market so a lot of the things we want are not coming in quick enough. Huge lists of changes in each point release but not much to excite.

There is no denying the weather, ai traffic etc are far better in P3d though. I really miss my aerosoft a320.

I am rambling. My advice is buy both. Use both. Switch  between them like switching  between planes.

Same here...2500k 4ghz GTX 980.  I truly use them both almost 50 50.  Before 64bit p3d came out I nearly quit cause of all the OOM'S but V4 made those a moot point
