Using 'Flightaware.com' ?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if its possible to see the exact routing used on arrived flights in Flightaware?

I'm trying to see what SIDS & STARS were used. I'm sure I used to get the info from there, but don't see it now.

Been a while since i used it.

Hi Dougal

Seems to be American domiciled airlines for which this info is generally available, but not for others.

If you are looking for detailed flight plan info on flights outside the United States for flightsim purposes, there is a website called flightplandatabase.com which’s a very useful resource. This has a detailed database of about 1800 flight plans based on real world flights. Many of these have SIDs and STARs listed (in abbreviated form) as well as the ocean tracks followed if you are interested in that sort of thing. In addition there is a large bank of user generated flight plans or you can generate your own.

If however you are looking for data for specific flights on specific days, Flight Aware is, as far as I know, the only source for this, but as Erich already mentioned only provides this for flights originating in the USA.

Very useful website, thanks for the link, I've added it to my bookmarks.  Here's a flight plan generated for Orlando to Phoenix, just like the same route airlines always seem to follow in real life.

I think the issue here is that flight in the US include the SIDs and STARs because SIDs and STARs are based on direction of flight into an airport.  In Europe, SIDs and STARs are based on the last waypoint in your flightplan and the Runway you're using.  Since Arrival Runways often change during the course of a flight (due to Winds, Weather, etc.) that means that the Arrival can change as well, so it's not included in filed flight plans.

Best wishes.

When I do real world flights from my home airport CYYZ to EGLL, I get the whole route from FlightAware, including SID and STAR, and I get the runways from FlightRadar24. When I do flights to EDDF, I get the route plus SID plus the transition waypoint for Frankfurt and, from FlightRadar24, I can figure out the rest. For flights from Britain and Europe to CYYZ, I get the route from somewhere in mid-Atlantic to CYYZ including the STAR. Using FlightRadar24 and SkyVector, I can reconstruct the rest of the route.

I use FSBuild to set up flights. I go on flightaware, copy the routing, paste it in fs build and then build the route exactly as it is flown.
