Today I tried to OC my 8700k and achieved a stable 5 Ghz at only 1.23v.

Normally my P3D settings are just at the default, with 8xMSAA (FXAA on), 16x Anisotropic, and dynamic reflections/shadows, etc.

I upped the setting and copied Chewwy94's settings found here https://www.chewwy94.co.uk/settings1.html.

I was quite surprised that my FPS which before was steady at 60fps, struggled to maintain even 35-40 fps, and the CPU usage remained at 95-100%. GPU usage ranged between 30-49%. Apart from the FPS alone, I could definitely feel bad stutters/long frames.

Definitely not the results that I was expecting.

My PC specs is in the signature:

i7-8700K OC to 5 Ghz HT-on, RTX 2070 8GB, 16GB RAM

I am also running ORBX Global and Vector. The performance was observed during my flight from KBOS (FlyTampa Reboot) going to KTPA (FlyTampa) using the Aerosoft Professional A320.

It was found soon after its release that 4.5 had major performance issues on SOME users systems. There is a fix in the works and hopefully will be out in the next few weeks.

Odd thing is, I didn't have any performance issues with 4.5. But note that it everything else was at default settings, very bare. Scenery complexity/autogen/trees are all on dense and medium range. My CPU usage ranges in the 20-40% only. This was with a 4.8ghz OC. Only today I tried to push it to 5.0 ghz and thought of treating myself with higher settings that I thought my machine was or should be well capable of handling, I noticed the aforementioned issues. 😞

That must be some setup if you're able to maintain a steady at 60fps. Does it maintaining 60 FPS when you arrive at payware airports like FlyTampa Boston?

Except in FlyTampa Boston and DD KJFK, which is frustratingly sluggish! And even more sluggish when I increased the world settings.

But in other places like KPHX, KLAX, OMDB, and EGLL...I am able to maintain 45-60 fps consistently without long frames/stutters.

I reverted my P3D settings to their stable profile which is default plus AA/AF enhancements, and some shadows/lighting, and my CPU usage and overall performance smoothness is back to normal.

SSAA and DL together is going to slam your frame rates at night.  Your autogen distance slider should be back in mid-range until LM releases the hotfix for 4.5.  And cloud shadow distance at max is another big performance hit.

It's a lot more instructive to start where you were and experiment with the settings on your system one at a time.  Using someone else's configuration, which involves changing a whole bunch of settings at once (on top of a P3D version change), makes a determination of what's driving performance challenges difficult at best.

Dynamic reflections may be the reason - no surprise. Remove them, or set to low to see what happens.

It is important not to allow 60FPS to be an absolute, you can miss out on much more fulfilling/realistic scenes while locked at 20.

For the life of me I cant understand why anybody would keep wide-view aspect ratio off....still using square CRT's?

Thanks for all your suggestions.

For now, I already reverted to my older profile, which I have shared below. This currently delivers the best performance for my setup. And maybe try again upping the settings after LM release the 4.5 hotfix.

You may notice I use 4xSSAA because I only have a 23" display at 1080p.

You have proven what many have experienced before.. if you increase the settings enough, you can overpower pretty much any system

As you back off some of the settings, you find what trade-offs work best for you (and your system)..

This can't be true enough. 😉

I always read about overclocking in many forums. First is to find stability. Found it, great! Now let P3D rip, and still, it's never enough. Haha!
