GSX update on the way

Any word on when we might see the highly anticipated GSX L2 update...??

I haven't seen any new news on either the FSDT forums or at their facebook page where this was officially announced.

I'm eagerly looking forward to it...😁

You just have to use the Live Updater.

Thanks Bob, that's what I thought.

So once it's released, the live updater will install it, is that correct..??

I don't think Umberto has yet said how the update will be deployed.  It sounds like a pretty major update, so if it required an uninstall/reinstall, it wouldn't surprise me.  I have so much time and work invested in my GSX configs that it'd be something of a disaster to lose them in an update or a system crash, so I back them up regularly and separately now.

Regards

Same here.

Before the update comes i'm going to do the same thing, and thanks for suggesting it. I assume that would mean backing up not only the cfg ini's, but also any compiled exclude files..?? Anything else..?

It was a sneaky way to say: no update yet.

I'm also interested in what/how you do your GSX backup. I feel like I'm going to miss something important as I've also spent a lot of time configuring airports...

The update can be made either with "just" a normal Live Update (which will of course download a lot of data), or with the updated full installer. There isn't much difference, since both will end up with the same result.

None of your own work ( airplane or scenery customizations ) will be affected, and a reinstall won't be necessary.

The only things which will be removed, will be custom operators made with the PaintKit, since this won't be supported anymore, considering how much easier and better is the new system. However, the installer won't blindly remove the old PaintKit folders, but it will move them to a separate folder, so they won't be active in the simulator, but you'll still be able to retrieve your custom textures from there, to convert to the new method.

We are in the final process of testing the latest bugs, so it won't be much longer before it will be released.

Thanks Umberto...👍

Any sense of approximately how far out we are from the update..?? I'm really looking forward to having the ability to quickly and easily apply custom graphics to the jetways, as well as the many other improvements to GSX L2.

As I've said in my previous post, it won't be much longer now.

Any chance of a surprise Friday release?

No, our goal is to release it before the end of the month but, as usual, any bug found at the very last minute could delay a release.

No it wasn't.

It was confusing, since the most natural conclusion to your statement was, that the update was released, and the one should use the FSDT updater to obtain it.
